Alternate Mine Manager
TSS Group is recruiting for an experienced Alternate Mine Manager to join a major iron ore operation in Western Australia.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced mining professional to join the site leadership team as the Alternate Mine Manager.
Reporting to the Mine Manager, this is a hands-on technical and operational role responsible for developing practical mine plans and schedules that optimise safety, productivity and resource recovery while supporting the safe and efficient operation of a large-scale open pit iron ore mine.
Working closely with Operations, Geology, Survey and mining contractors, you will provide technical leadership across mine planning, scheduling, drill and blast, production performance and continuous improvement, while also fulfilling the statutory responsibilities of the Quarry and Site Senior Executive (SSE).
Applications are welcomed from experienced Alternate Mine Managers, as well as Senior or Lead Mining Engineers who hold the required WA statutory qualifications and have the operational leadership experience to perform the role.
Key Responsibilities
Develop practical short, medium and long-term mine plans and production schedules.
Optimise mine designs, pit sequencing, haulage strategies and production performance.
Monitor mining performance and reconcile production against plan.
Provide technical leadership across drill and blast, grade control and production activities.
Support the Mine Manager in the safe and efficient operation of the mine.




Fulfil the statutory responsibilities of the Alternate Mine Manager and Site Senior Executive (SSE) as required.
Work closely with mining contractors to ensure safe and productive execution of mine plans and achievement of production targets.
Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity, resource recovery and operating costs.
Prepare operational reports, production forecasts and performance analysis.
Lead operational risk assessments and incident investigations.
Collaborate with Geology, Survey, Maintenance and Operations teams to deliver production objectives.
Ensure compliance with WA mining legislation, statutory obligations, environmental requirements and company standards.
Mentor and support site mining engineers while fostering a strong safety culture.
Key Requirements
Degree in Mining Engineering.
WA Quarry Manager Certificate of Competency – Essential.
Site Senior Executive (SSE) qualification – Essential.
Previous experience in a senior site-based mining engineering or operational leadership role within an open pit mining operation.
Strong experience in mine planning, scheduling and production optimisation.
Experience using Alastri, Deswik, Vulcan, MineSched or similar mine planning software.
Sound understanding of drill and blast, mine design and contractor mining operations.
Strong leadership, analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Current C-Class Driver's Licence.

Permanent full-time position.
8:6 roster from Perth.
12-hour shifts.
$240,000-$270,000 + Super.
Start date: 10 August.
