Mosaic IT Pty Limited is an established managed IT services provider based in West Ryde, NSW. We provide professional network, cloud, cybersecurity and managed IT solutions to a diverse range of business clients across Australia.
Due to continued business growth, we are seeking an experienced Computer Network and Systems Engineer to join our technical team.
Main Responsibilities
The Computer Network and Systems Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, implementation, configuration, testing, maintenance and optimisation of Mosaic IT’s internal systems and the network, cloud and systems environments managed on behalf of its clients.
The main responsibilities of the position are to:
1. Take responsibility for the operational readiness, availability, security and performance of client network, systems and cloud environments.
2. Design and implement reliable and secure computer networks, server environments, cloud platforms, identity services, endpoint-management solutions and related infrastructure.
3. Analyse client systems and business requirements and recommend appropriate technical designs, improvements, upgrades and remediation activities.
4. Manage the configuration, deployment, testing and ongoing optimisation of network and systems services across environments containing multiple technologies, operating systems and configurations.
5. Monitor managed environments and identify capacity, performance, availability, configuration and security issues before they materially affect client operations.
6. Diagnose and resolve complex network, systems, cloud, identity, connectivity and security problems, including matters escalated by other members of the technical team.
7. Plan and deliver infrastructure, Microsoft cloud, network, security, migration and systems-improvement projects in accordance with approved scope, technical standards and client requirements.
8. Ensure that systems and network changes are properly assessed, tested, documented and communicated before being introduced into production environments.
9. Maintain accurate technical documentation, including system configurations, network diagrams, asset information, implementation records, support procedures and disaster-recovery documentation.
10. Provide technical leadership, escalation support, mentoring and knowledge transfer to Mosaic IT’s service and project team members.
11. Communicate effectively with clients regarding technical requirements, incidents, planned changes, service interruptions, risks and recommended improvements.
12. Remain informed about developments in network, systems,
cloud and cybersecurity technologies and recommend appropriate improvements to Mosaic IT’s services and client environments.
Position Requirements
The minimum requirements for appointment to the position of Computer Network and Systems Engineer are:
1. A bachelor's degree or higher qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, Systems Engineering or another closely related discipline; or an equivalent combination of relevant professional experience and recognised vendor certifications.
2. Where the applicant does not hold a directly relevant bachelor's degree, at least five years of relevant skilled experience in computer network and systems engineering, together with relevant industry or vendor certification, may be accepted as an alternative.
3. At least three years of practical professional experience in designing, implementing, administering, maintaining and troubleshooting computer networks, systems, cloud services and associated infrastructure.
4. Demonstrated experience working with Microsoft technologies, including Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, Windows operating systems and related identity and endpoint-management services.
5. Demonstrated experience with network infrastructure and security technologies, including routers, managed switches, wireless networks, firewalls, virtual private networks, internet connectivity and network monitoring.
6. Demonstrated experience with backup, disaster recovery, endpoint security, patch management, system monitoring and technical documentation.
7. The ability to analyse complex technical problems, determine their underlying causes and implement reliable and secure solutions.
8. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain technical matters to clients, suppliers and other members of the technical team.
Relevant current Microsoft, Cisco, networking, security, cloud, firewall, virtualisation or other recognised industry certifications are highly regarded.
Essential Skills
The successful applicant must possess advanced technical skills in the design, implementation, configuration, administration, testing, monitoring and troubleshooting of computer networks,
systems and cloud services.
Essential skills include:
1. Strong skills in designing, configuring and maintaining local area networks, wide area networks, internet services, managed switches, routers, wireless networks, firewalls and virtual private networks.
2. Strong Microsoft cloud and systems administration skills, including Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Intune, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Microsoft Teams and Windows operating systems.
3. The ability to configure and manage identity, authentication, device compliance, access control, multifactor authentication and Conditional Access services.
4. Skills in the implementation and maintenance of servers, virtualisation, endpoints, storage, backup, disaster recovery and business-continuity solutions.
5. A sound understanding of cybersecurity principles and the ability to implement network security, endpoint security, patch management, vulnerability remediation and system-hardening controls.
6. Advanced analytical, diagnostic and fault-finding skills, including the ability to identify the underlying cause of complex network, cloud, systems, connectivity, authentication and performance problems.
7. The ability to interpret system alerts, logs, network traffic and performance information and determine the appropriate corrective or preventative action.
8. The ability to plan, test and deliver network, systems, cloud, security, migration and infrastructure projects in a controlled production environment.
9. Strong technical documentation skills, including the preparation and maintenance of network diagrams, system configurations, implementation procedures, recovery procedures, troubleshooting records and client-specific technical information.
10. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain technical matters clearly to clients, suppliers and other employees.
11. The ability to prioritise competing technical requirements, manage incidents and project activities, meet agreed deadlines and work effectively with limited supervision.
12. The ability to work collaboratively, provide escalation assistance and transfer technical knowledge to other members of the service and project teams.
13. Sound professional judgement, attention to detail and an understanding of the confidentiality, security and business-continuity obligations associated with managing clients’ information technology environments.
