Role details

The Continuing Care Services at the Mackay Community Health Centre is seeking applications for a Team Leader (Indigenous Mental Health Workforce) to join their team on a permanent basis.

Your opportunity

- Provide operational oversight to a team of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander MHAOD Workers working within the Mackay Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs (MHAOD) Division.
- Provide professional leadership, support, advice, and professional development of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander MHAOD Workers within the MHAOD Division.
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to ensure the delivery of culturally informed, strengths-based, and secure clinical services within the Mackay MHAOD Division, while guiding the Mackay MHAOD Division in delivering responsible and culturally appropriate care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families, and communities.
- Develop partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and their organisations.
- Provide support and advice on professional issues in the Health Service to those in the profession, to ensure effective, productive, and equitable delivery of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander MHAOD Worker Services.
- Monitor and reviewing of quality control, maintenance of professional standards and clinical practice, coordination of National and Statewide issues,



advice on policy and provision of expert advice on a consultancy basis to other organisations.
- Liaise closely with MHAOD Division Team Leaders to integrate the role of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander MHAOD Worker within clinical pathways of care and ensuring services provided to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are culturally safe and responsive.
- Contribute to the broader MHHS initiatives to Closing the Gap.

About the Team

The Division of Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs is comprised of eight clinical teams across the MHHS. The Mental Health Service is responsible for the provision of comprehensive, specialised mental health assessment and treatment services across the age-spectrum for people with severe and complex mental health problems. Our services aim to be consumer focused and recovery oriented and are provided in a variety of settings including community, an acute inpatient unit, hospitals and emergency departments.

The Indigenous Mental Health Workforce Team comprises of a staffing group of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander MHAOD Workers.

About our Hospital and Health Service

has 6 hospitals, 2 multi-purpose health services and 4 community health centres that employ more than 3,500 staff. The district covers an area of approximately 90,000km2 and provides services to patients and their families in Bowen, Cannonvale, Clermont, Collinsville, Dysart, Glenden, Mackay, Middlemount, Moranbah, Proserpine and Sarina.
