Position: Telecommunications Technician

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $80,000 to $85,000 plus superannuation per annum

Our client Fibre Connections Pty Ltd is a specialist telecommunications contracting company delivering fibre network construction, installation and remediation services on the National Broadband Network (NBN). The company performs demand installations, Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) connections, service remediation and network assurance work as an approved delivery partner, servicing residential and business premises across South East Queensland and regional Queensland. The company currently engages a field workforce of qualified fibre technicians and is expanding to meet a sustained pipeline of contracted work orders.

The Telecommunications Technician installs, maintains, repairs and tests fibre optic and copper telecommunications infrastructure and customer connections to NBN network standards. The position is responsible for completing allocated work orders end-to-end in the field - from site assessment through installation, splicing, testing and activation to job completion records - ensuring services are delivered safely, compliantly and to the quality benchmarks required under the company’s contractual obligations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

- Install, connect and maintain fibre optic (FTTP/FTTC/FTTN) and associated copper cabling, lead-ins, premises connection devices (PCD), network termination devices (NTD) and internal cabling at customer premises.
- Perform demand installations, service remediation and fault rectification work orders, including hauling, terminating and splicing optical fibre and repairing damaged plant.
- Conduct site surveys and pre-installation assessments to determine cable routes, equipment placement and any hazards or non-standard installation requirements.
- Test and commission installed services using optical power meters, light sources,



OTDRs and copper test equipment; interpret results and verify performance against NBN specifications before activation.
- Diagnose and locate faults in telecommunications equipment, cabling and network infrastructure, and carry out repairs or escalate network-side faults as appropriate.
- Joint and terminate cables in pits, pillars, multiports and distribution points, and maintain the integrity of underground and aerial network assets.
- Complete work order documentation, as-built records, photographs and job completion data accurately in the relevant workflow systems (e.g. ticket-of-work platforms) to support invoicing and quality audit.
- Liaise with customers on site regarding installation options, service outcomes and safe work arrangements, maintaining a professional standard of customer service.
- Comply with all WHS obligations, protected work method statements, traffic management plans and NBN safety and quality accreditation requirements, including safe use of ladders, power tools and test equipment.
- Maintain tools, test instruments, vehicle stock and consumables, and assist with mentoring junior technicians as the field team grows.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Essential:

- Advanced Diploma in Telecommunications and Network Engineering
- A minimum of 12 months relevant experience
- Demonstrated experience in fibre optic installation, splicing, testing and remediation, preferably on the NBN or comparable carrier networks.
- Current construction induction (White Card) and driver’s licence.
- Ability to read network design plans, work order specifications and test parameters, and to complete digital job records accurately.
- Physical capacity for field work, including working in pits, on ladders, in ceilings and confined areas, in all weather conditions.

Desirable:

- NBN accreditations relevant to FTTP demand installation and remediation work streams.
- Experience with ticket-of-work / field workforce management platforms.
- First aid certification and working-safely-around-electricity awareness training.
