Racing NSW is the statutory body for thoroughbred horse racing in NSW and owns a number of properties across the state as part of its Equine Welfare Program.

Glenferrie, located near Crookwell in the Southern Tablelands of NSW, is a key property within the Equine Welfare Program and supports the retraining, spelling and rehoming of Thoroughbred horses following their racing careers.

We are seeking a capable and confident Rider / Stablehand to join the team at Glenferrie. Reporting directly to the Property Manager, this hands-on role focuses on riding and retraining Thoroughbreds, alongside providing high-quality daily horse care and assisting with general farm maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

The Rider / Stablehand role is responsible for:

• Riding and retraining Thoroughbred horses for rehoming and second careers

• Assessing horse behaviour, temperament and suitability for various disciplines

• Providing daily feeding, grooming and general care

• Safe handling of horses including catching, leading, rugging and turnout

• Monitoring horse health and reporting concerns promptly





• Assisting with farrier and veterinary visits

• Cleaning and maintenance of stables, yards and work areas

• Assisting with general farm maintenance and basic property upkeep

• Maintaining tack and equipment in valuable condition

• Upholding best practice equine welfare standards at all times

• Ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements

Skills & Experience

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

• Confidence riding and handling Thoroughbreds

• Experience retraining or re-educating horses (highly regarded)

• Strong horsemanship skills and ability to ride a variety of temperaments

• Willingness to assist with property and farm maintenance tasks

• Sound understanding of equine behaviour and welfare

• Ability to work independently and as part of a small team

• A proactive, ‘can do’ attitude and willingness to work outdoors

• Good communication skills and attention to detail

Desirable Qualifications

• Equestrian or racing industry background

• Experience retraining Thoroughbreds for performance or pleasure careers

• Experience operating farm machinery
