Cartledge Mining & Geotechnics (CM&G;) is seeking a Senior / Principal Rock Mechanics Engineer to join our Perth office and play a key role in delivering high-quality underground rock mechanics and geotechnical advice to mining clients across Australia and internationally.
This is a senior technical role suited to an experienced underground rock mechanics engineer who enjoys solving complex mining geotechnical problems, leading technical delivery, mentoring others and contributing to the continued growth of a specialist consulting business.

The Opportunity
Based in Western Australia, you will take a lead role in the delivery of underground rock mechanics and mining geotechnical projects, including technical analysis, numerical modelling, site support, reporting, internal peer review and client engagement. You will also support the development of junior engineers through mentoring, technical guidance and practical knowledge sharing. Experience in open pit geotechnical work will be considered an advantage and highly regarded.
Working closely with executive leadership, you will be responsible for developing client relationships, identifying growth opportunities, mentoring engineers, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality technical outcomes across a diverse portfolio of projects.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership




Provide senior-level geotechnical and rock mechanics consulting services to mining clients.Lead technical assessments, design reviews, due diligence’s, and risk evaluations for open cut and underground operations.Undertake advanced numerical modelling and engineering analyses.Develop innovative and practical solutions to complex geotechnical challenges.Review and approve technical reports, studies, and recommendations.Maintain the highest standards of technical quality and professional practice.
Business Development and Client Engagement
Develop and strengthen strategic relationships with existing and prospective clients.Identify opportunities to expand CM&G;'s service offering throughout Western Australia and internationally.Lead proposal preparation, project scoping, and contract negotiations.Represent CM&G; at industry events, technical forums, and client engagements.Contribute to business planning and strategic growth initiatives.
Leadership and Team Development
Mentor and develop emerging engineers and technical professionals.Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.Support recruitment and capability development as the WA business grows.Promote CM&G;'s values, professional standards, and client-focused approach.
Project and Commercial Management
Direct the delivery of projects from inception through completion.Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, and client expectations.Ensure projects are delivered safely, profitably, and to a consistently high standard.Contribute to financial performance through effective project management and client engagement.
Candidate Profile




The successful candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strong interpersonal and commercial capabilities.You will ideally bring:Tertiary qualifications in geology, geotechnical engineering, mining engineering or a related discipline.At least 10 years’ underground rock mechanics experience in mining environments.Strong capability in underground geotechnical design, ground support design, excavation stability assessment and operational mine support.Capability in geotechnical design and mine design software, including three-dimensional stress and deformation analysis.Strong technical report writing, communication and client-facing skills.A practical, methodical and technically rigorous approach to problem solving.Genuine interest in mentoring, developing others and contributing to a team-oriented team culture.Open pit geotechnical capability or experience will be considered an advantage.Full Australian working rights.
