Maffra and Districts Landcare Network (MDLN) is seeking a motivated and community-minded Community Facilitator to support our environmental volunteer networks, community groups, schools, organisations and landholders across the Maffra district.

The Community Facilitator will lead, collaborate with and support groups to protect, enhance and restore the natural environment, contributing to environmental, social and economic outcomes across the region.

The role will focus on developing and delivering natural resource management projects, securing project funding, facilitating community engagement and partnerships, building the capacity of volunteer groups, supporting strategic planning, and assisting with monitoring, evaluation and reporting.

The successful applicant will work closely with MDLN’s Agriculture Facilitator, volunteer Board, Landcare subgroups, community organisations, schools, government agencies, landholders and project partners.

About Maffra and Districts Landcare Network

Maffra and Districts Landcare Network was established in 1988 and covers approximately 75,000 hectares across the Maffra district - from Licola in the north, to The Honeysuckles on the coast, out east to Clydebank and west to Rosedale.

MDLN has a long history of delivering successful projects that restore, improve and protect the natural environment, enhance biodiversity and help build resilient communities.

Our activities and priorities align with regional and Victorian Government natural resource management, climate change and sustainability strategies.

MDLN works with Landcare groups, community organisations, schools, landholders, government agencies and other partners to develop practical, locally relevant environmental and community projects.

Position Purpose

The Community Facilitator will help MDLN achieve its strategic goal of “Thriving Communities, Healthy Landscapes.”

The position is responsible for supporting and strengthening local groups and communities while helping develop and deliver projects that improve biodiversity, natural resource management and community participation.

The Community Facilitator will have a high degree of independence and will be expected to manage their workload, build productive relationships and identify opportunities for collaboration, project development and funding.

Key responsibilities include:





- Supporting the development and delivery of on-ground natural resource management and environmental projects.
- Identifying grant opportunities, developing funding applications and helping leverage additional project investment.
- Undertaking community engagement, collaboration and partnership building.
- Building the capacity and resilience of Landcare groups, community groups and volunteer networks.
- Supporting groups with planning, priority setting and the development of achievable strategic actions.
- Assisting with project monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
- Planning and delivering community events, workshops, environmental education activities and nature connection activities.
- Building relationships with landholders, schools, community organisations, government agencies and other project partners.
- Supporting MDLN subgroups and emerging community interest groups.
- Contributing to MDLN communications and social media.
- Providing regular updates and reports to the MDLN Board.
- Working collaboratively with MDLN’s Agriculture Facilitator and volunteer Board.

- Boosting Bird Habitat along Flooding Creek.
- Rail Trail Biolink from Maffra to Tinamba.
- Small Footprints junior nature connection event series.
- Rewilding Maffra.
- Updating MDLN’s Native Flora Guide.
- Environmental education activities with local primary and secondary schools.
- Junior Landcare projects and grants.
- Supporting the Maffra Community Garden.
- Junior and family nature connection activities.
- Supporting the Mycelium Spore Society fungi data collection group.
- Supporting Landcare subgroups to identify and develop future on-ground projects.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

Essential

- Knowledge and understanding of Landcare, natural resource management and environmental issues relevant to the Maffra and Districts Landcare Network area.
- A high level of self-motivation and the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and achieve outcomes without daily supervision.




- Experience working collaboratively with community groups, government or agency staff, landholders and community members.
- Demonstrated ability to develop partnerships, plan projects, build community capacity and deliver community engagement activities and events.
- An understanding of community engagement processes, including consultation, negotiation and conflict resolution.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Strong written skills, including experience or demonstrated capacity in grant writing.
- Well-developed computer and administration skills.
- Experience or willingness to use social media and digital platforms including Instagram, Facebook and Wix.
- A current Victorian Driver’s Licence and access to a comprehensively insured vehicle.
- Current Australian residency.

Desirable

- Experience working with volunteer committees, community organisations or Landcare groups.
- Residence within Wellington Shire or strong knowledge of the local area.
- Experience with good governance practices.
- Formal qualifications in natural resource management, environmental science, community development or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Approximately 3-4 years of relevant professional experience.

- Salary of $43–$50 per hour plus superannuation.

The position is based at 2 Malmo Street, Maffra, Victoria, with travel throughout the Network area and occasional evening and weekend activities required.
