About the role
We are seeking an experienced Team Lead Accounts to join our Finance team at our South Wharf, Victoria office. This is a full-time position responsible for leading the day-to-day accounts function, ensuring accurate, timely and efficient financial processing and reporting. A key focus of the role is the end-to-end management of supplier and store rebates, including calculations, accruals, reconciliations, claims and payments. The role provides leadership to the accounts team, maintains strong financial controls, supports month-end and year-end processes, and drives continuous improvement across accounting operations. This position is integral to supporting the financial health and operational success of Australian United Retailers.
Key responsibilities
The role oversees the Accounts function, with key responsibility for:
Rebate management – overseeing supplier and store rebates, including calculations, accruals, claims, credits, reconciliations and payments.
Financial operations – preparing bank reconciliations
Month-end and year-end – coordinating reconciliations, accruals, journals, reporting and financial close activities and assisting with half year and year end audit.
Team leadership – managing three staff, allocating workloads, supporting team development,
monitoring performance and ensuring accounting deadlines are achieved.
Financial controls – maintaining accurate processes, reconciliations and compliance with accounting policies and internal controls.
Reporting and stakeholders – preparing financial information and working with suppliers, stores, management and internal stakeholders to resolve queries and discrepancies.
Process improvement – identifying opportunities to improve, streamline and automate accounting and rebate processes.
What we're looking for
5+ years of experience in accounts receivable, credit control or a related finance function, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or team lead capacity
Proven expertise in accounts receivable management, including collections, credit assessment and dispute resolution
Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial controls and compliance requirements
Excellent leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop team members
Advanced proficiency in accounting software systems and Microsoft Excel
Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with customers, colleagues and senior stakeholders
Robust analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
Demonstrated experience in process improvement and implementing operational efficiencies
Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment
Professional accounting qualifications such as CPA, ICAA or equivalent would be advantageous
