Teacher - VET Automotive (contract 23/11/26 to 22/11/27) 2 days p/w flexible
Outer Northern Trade Training Centre is seeking an experienced Teacher - VET Automotive to join our dedicated teaching staff. This is a part‑time position offering 2 days per week on a flexible basis , based at our campus in Lalor, VIC 3075 . The contract runs from 23 November 2026 to 22 November 2027 .
In this role, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality vocational education and training in automotive studies to secondary students. You will play a vital part in preparing young people for careers in the automotive industry, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills development. This position offers the flexibility to balance teaching commitments with other professional pursuits, whilst making a meaningful impact on students' futures.
Key responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging VET automotive curriculum aligned with Victorian Curriculum and training standards
Conduct practical automotive workshops and hands‑on training sessions in a safe and supportive environment
Assess student progress through formal and informal assessment methods, providing constructive feedback
Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress and achievement
Collaborate with colleagues to integrate automotive VET programs with broader secondary education offerings
Ensure all workshop equipment, tools and facilities are maintained to the highest safety standards
Develop and maintain strong relationships with students, parents and guardians to support student wellbeing and engagement
Participate in professional development opportunities to maintain current knowledge of automotive industry practices
Contribute to the college's commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment
What we’re looking for
Hold a current VIT registration or have the ability to meet the VIT permission to teach requirements
Demonstrated expertise in automotive systems, repairs, maintenance and diagnostics
Strong knowledge of current automotive industry standards and emerging technologies
Experience in delivering practical, hands‑on training in a workshop or educational environment
Proven ability to create safe, inclusive and engaging learning environments for diverse student cohorts
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students and colleagues
Commitment to maintaining high standards of health and safety compliance in workshop settings
Ability to work flexibly and adapt to a part‑time teaching schedule
Desirable: Trade qualifications (Minimum Certificate III in Automotive) , current driver’s licence and experience with current diagnostic equipment and software
Open to paying for a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment for the right applicant
Minimum 10 years in automotive industry
