Clinical Nurse Consultant (Contact Tracing Support Officer)

In this specialist role with Central Queensland's Blood Borne Virus and Sexual Health Service, you'll lead complex contact tracing, guide critical clinical decisions and equip healthcare professionals across the region to respond with confidence.
From local clinics and Aboriginal Medical Services to community organisations and correctional health, your work will connect the right people, information and action before it's too late. You'll use research and fresh thinking to strengthen how CQ prevents and responds to STI and BBV transmission. If you're ready to lead, influence and leave a lasting mark on public health, this is your opportunity.

About us

The Blood Borne Virus and Sexual Health Service (BBV&SH;) provides specialised sexual health and blood borne virus care across Central Queensland, based in Rockhampton. The service offers screening, diagnosis, treatment, education and health promotion, with a focus on supporting people and communities who may face greater risk due to health, behavioural or social factors.

Our specialist teams provide holistic medical and nursing care, treatment, education and ongoing support for people living with HIV and viral hepatitis, working closely with families, healthcare providers and community organisations. Care is delivered through local clinics, integrated services and telehealth, including an in-reach service to Capricornia Correctional Centre.

About the role

- Lead STI contact tracing across Central Queensland, providing expert guidance and hands-on support for complex cases.
- Provide advanced clinical leadership, using specialist STI/BBV knowledge to support safe, high-quality care and informed decision-making.
- Educate and empower healthcare professionals, including GPs, nurses, Aboriginal Medical Services and sexual health teams, to confidently manage contact tracing.

- Drive best practice and innovation, using research, surveillance data, quality improvement and contemporary approaches to strengthen STI/BBV public health responses.
- Build strong partnerships and lead change, connecting health services, community organisations and key stakeholders to improve prevention, surveillance and outcomes across Central Queensland.

About you

- Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) via the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA); completion of or working towards a Sexual and Reproductive Health Program course would be advantageous.
- Highly autonomous decision-maker, capable of working independently, prioritising effectively and taking ownership and accountability for complex clinical and service needs.
- Exceptional communicator and collaborator, able to build respectful relationships, mentor others, navigate challenging situations and work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and services.
- Clinical leader and service improver, bringing evidence-based practice, service coordination, resource management and a commitment to strengthening care, workforce capability and outcomes across the BBV&SH; service.
