We've spent nine years becoming the best branding agency you've never heard of. Consider this the last year that's true.
Award-winning. Never chased it. We built quietly – one good project, one good hire, one good decision at a time. Sharpen the craft, raise the standard, let the reputation do the rest. Zero advertising. Pure word of mouth. It's earned us a seat at the table with market-leading brands most boutique studios never get near. Nobody saw us coming. That's about to change.
Every big move we're about to make needs one thing first: someone who can lead at the level we're playing at. Not someone who fits into what we've built – someone who helps us wreck it and build it better.
You know exactly what fitting in costs, because you've lived it. Sitting in a room that stopped pushing years ago and calls it maturity. Watching the same three ideas get recycled because nobody's hungry enough to find a fourth. Knowing there's a better answer and being told the client won't go for it. Every idea, capped at "good enough" before it got the chance to be great.
Not here. We want someone who pushes further, who asks why, who'd rather build a reputation than inherit one. Whose name belongs on the work, not lost above it. Good enough to have options. Picky enough to want this one.
Who we are
Boldly. Seven people (for now). Brisbane-based, working nationally. We measure ourselves against the best work in the country, not the biggest names in it. Nobody here pulls rank. The best idea wins, whoever brought it – not a value on a wall, just how the room runs.
Brand strategy and the campaigns that bring it to life – that's the core of what we do, across FMCG, hospitality, retail, entertainment and more. If it's a category, chances are we've already worked in it.
But underneath every brief, the same instinct: brand only matters if it changes how someone feels or behaves. Not identity applied to a surface – built into the experience itself. A smell that stops them. A seal they can't quite bring themselves to tear. In a world running short on human touch, we're narrowing everything we do toward one thing: real world building, where brand lives in a room, a box, a moment someone actually feels. We're already doing it. We just want to be doing nothing else.
The job
Design Director. Brand and campaign work, led at the highest level. Here's where it starts:
- Set the vision. Brand platforms, campaign concepts, hero ideas – the creative direction on the projects and pitches that matter most.
- Own the room.
Be the trusted creative voice with clients – present the work, hold the line when it's challenged.
- Still craft. Stay hands-on where it counts – still designing, still connected to the craft.
- Build the reputation. Own the studio's portfolio, case studies and award submissions.
- Stay ahead of it. Know where design's heading before it gets there, and bring that back into the room.
- Hold the standard. Every piece of creative output answers to you before it answers to a client.
- Pick your people. Real input into who joins the design team, not just who you're handed.
- Mentor the team. Grow the people delivering the work, not just direct them.
- Build your bench. A trusted circle of producers, photographers, illustrators – your call on who's good enough to be in it.
- Build what lasts. Design systems, guidelines and templates the whole studio scales against.
- Make it commercial. Creative that's brilliant and pays its way – you decide what a project needs to do both.
- Run the studio. Allocate designers to projects, bring in freelance support when the team's stretched.
That's the role. What comes with it goes further. Real creative authority over client work from day one – and as you prove what you can do, that authority only grows. We're not interested in boxing anyone in – we're interested in finding out what happens when we don't. There's a real say in how this agency itself gets built – the work we chase, the people we hire, how we run. And while right now the Creative Director seat is our founder's, one day, if you're good enough, it's yours.
This is the part that's hard to put in a job ad, so we'll just say it straight: we're not interested in being bigger. We're interested in being the kind of name that gets talked about in five years, not the kind coasting on the last twenty. Right now, brand strategy and campaign work across categories is what pays the bills and proves the standard – that work is real, and it's positive. But it's not the endgame.
The endgame is narrower and sharper: real world building,
brand you can smell before you understand why it's working on you. We're already chasing it. We just haven't finished the job. Whoever takes this role doesn't inherit that job half-done. They come in and help finish it.
Who we're looking for
We're after someone chasing the work, not the title. The legacy that matters here was never going to be one name on one door – it's a team that's better because you led it. That takes more than good instincts. Here's what proves it:
- First and foremost, a great human without the agency ego.
- You've got solid agency experience at Design Director or Art Director level, or close enough that the gap won't show
- Real experience leading brand and campaign work, not just executing on someone else's strategy
- An incredible designer first – impeccable craft and eye that speak for themselves, not just great instincts on paper
- You think in worlds, not identities – you know the difference between brand applied to a surface and brand built into the moment someone actually lives
- You're confident presenting and defending work directly to clients – not just making it, backing it
- You've mentored and resourced a team for real, because the legacy line above only means something if you've already started building one
- You've got commercial nous – a real hand in what a project costs and what it's worth, not just what it looks like
What you get
- Paid like the work is worth it, not like the agency's small – top of market for a boutique studio at this level
- Work where you're sharpest, not just where a desk is – hybrid by default, with 3 days in studio to stay close to the room
- No layers between you and the founder – you're building this next chapter with her, not for her
- A team that actually means it when they ask how you're doing. This is closer to family than hierarchy
- A genuine trajectory to Creative Director – not promised on a date, but real, and yours to earn
Whoever takes this seat sits at the front of what we build next. Not watching it happen.
We know exactly what this business needs: a senior creative with the appetite to push further. But what we've got isn't a fenced-off role with someone else's limits built in – it's a genuinely big, juicy creative hole. The right person won't just fill it. They'll find more in it than we ever thought to ask for, because that's what great creative instinct does with real scope.
If that sounds like the kind of scope you've been waiting for – do it Boldly.
