The Opportunity
This is a senior strategic appointment for an established Data Centre Cost Management, Quantity Surveying or Estimating leader who wants more than another Director title.
Our client is a privately owned, specialist Cost Management & Commercial Advisory consultancy with an established Australian platform, sophisticated client base and ambitious plans for its next stage of growth.
Rather than continuing to compete as a generalist consultancy, the business is looking to make a significant investment into the Data Centre & Mission Critical market, establishing a specialist division with the capability and credibility to become a recognised advisor within the sector.
They are therefore looking internationally for an individual with the reputation, relationships and technical pedigree to build and lead it.
You will be given the platform, investment and executive support to establish the division, develop its market strategy, build a specialist team and position the business for major data centre and mission critical opportunities.
This is not a position where you will simply inherit an existing team and manage someone else's strategy.
The mandate is to create it.
For the right individual, there is also the potential to structure an equity or shareholding position within the wider business, providing the opportunity to participate directly in the long-term value you create.
The Role
As Director – Data Centres & Mission Critical, you will sit at a senior level within the organisation and take ownership of establishing the company's specialist capability within the sector.
Your remit will extend well beyond conventional project delivery. You will define the market proposition, influence investment decisions, build senior client relationships, recruit the team and establish the technical standards required to develop a highly credible Data Centre cost advisory practice.
Your responsibilities will include
- Establish and lead a dedicated Data Centre & Mission Critical Cost Management division
- Define the division's strategy, market positioning, service offering and long-term growth plan
- Leverage an established network across the global data centre and mission critical market
- Develop relationships with data centre developers, operators, investors, hyperscalers, contractors, consultants and other major sector participants
- Identify and secure strategic opportunities across Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific market
- Lead and provide executive oversight of major cost management, estimating and commercial advisory commissions
- Provide senior-level advice across feasibility, development, procurement, cost planning and project delivery
- Establish technical standards, processes and best practice for the division
- Recruit,
develop and lead a specialist team of cost management and estimating professionals
- Work directly with the existing Directors and shareholders on the strategic development of the wider organisation
- Build a scalable business unit capable of developing into a significant part of the company's future operations
Who We're Looking For
This search is deliberately targeted at the senior end of the international Data Centre cost management market.
You may currently be a Director, Regional Director, Sector Lead, Partner or senior executive within a major international cost consultancy, specialist advisory firm or organisation operating extensively within the mission critical sector.
Your background must fundamentally sit within Quantity Surveying, Cost Management, Construction Economics or Estimating, combined with considerable experience in Data Centres and Mission Critical environments.
Of equal importance will be your standing within the market.
You will ideally bring
- Considerable Data Centre and Mission Critical sector experience
- A career foundation in Quantity Surveying, Cost Management, Estimating or Construction Economics
- An established and demonstrable network within the international data centre market
- Senior relationships with developers, operators, investors, hyperscalers, contractors, consultants and/or other sector participants
- A strong understanding of the commercial and cost drivers associated with complex mission critical developments
- A track record of leading major cost management, estimating or commercial advisory commissions
- Experience establishing, growing or leading specialist teams or sector-focused business units
- Strong commercial judgement and the ability to identify and convert strategic opportunities
- The credibility to operate with C-suite executives, investors, developers and senior project stakeholders
- An entrepreneurial mindset and a desire to create long-term enterprise value
Above all, this opportunity will suit someone who has reached a stage in their career where they want to build something with greater personal ownership and influence.
Why Consider It?
For the right person, the attraction is not simply remuneration or title.
It is the opportunity to take the expertise,
relationships and reputation you have built throughout your career and use them to establish a specialist business with genuine executive backing.
You will have the autonomy to shape the division rather than fitting into an established corporate structure.
You will influence who you hire, which clients you pursue, how the business positions itself and ultimately how large the division becomes. For an individual currently operating within a major global consultancy, it provides an opportunity to move from leading a service line to having a meaningful stake in the business you are helping to create.
For the right appointment, the business is prepared to discuss an equity or shareholding structure, aligning your long-term interests with the growth and success of the company.
An International Search
This is a global search.
The business recognises that the right individual may currently be based in the UK, Europe, Middle East, Asia, North America or elsewhere within the international Data Centre market.
International candidates with the appropriate sector experience, network and leadership credentials are strongly encouraged to enquire.
For an exceptional candidate looking to relocate to Sydney, Australian visa sponsorship and relocation support can be considered.
This creates an opportunity to take a senior position within the Australian and Asia-Pacific Data Centre market while retaining the ability to leverage relationships developed internationally.
What You'll Get
This is a highly flexible executive appointment, with the overall proposition structured around the calibre of the individual.
The successful candidate can expect:
- A senior Director-level leadership position with substantial autonomy
- The mandate and resources to establish a new specialist division
- Direct access to the Directors and shareholders of the wider business
- The ability to recruit and shape your own specialist team
- Exposure to the rapidly expanding Australian and Asia-Pacific Data Centre market
- A highly attractive executive remuneration package
- Potential equity or shareholding within the business
- Australian sponsorship and relocation support for the right international candidate
- A genuine opportunity to build significant long-term personal and enterprise value
- Salary: $300-$350K Bonuses/Shares/Equity
This is an opportunity for an established Data Centre cost professional who is less interested in their next corporate title and more interested in what they can build, influence and ultimately own.
