As the organisation continues to evolve and realise the opportunities created through integration, WDHS is seeking an accomplished and strategic Director of Finance to help shape the financial future of the newly expanded health service.
The Opportunity
This newly created role provides a rare opportunity to shape the financial future of a complex and evolving healthcare organisation.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director Finance & Corporate Services, the Director of Finance will lead all aspects of financial strategy, governance, reporting and operational finance across the health service.
You will play a critical role in supporting Executive and Board decision-making, ensuring financial sustainability, funding optimisation and strong compliance within Victoria's public health framework.
Leading a capable team across Finance Operations, Contracts & Compliance, and Finance Systems & Reporting, you will foster a culture of accountability, innovation and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic financial leadership and advice to Executive leaders and the Board.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, financial planning and performance monitoring.
- Oversee statutory and management reporting, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and compliance.
- Drive funding optimisation and support effective utilisation of public health funding streams.
- Ensure robust financial governance, risk management and audit readiness.
- Lead continuous improvement across financial systems, reporting frameworks and business processes.
- Oversee procurement, contract management and commercial governance activities.
- Build capability and performance within the finance function through strong leadership and coaching.
The Ideal Candidate
You are a commercially astute and values-driven finance leader with the ability to operate strategically while maintaining strong operational oversight.
You will bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- CPA Australia or CA ANZ membership.
- Significant experience leading finance functions within a complex organisation, ideally within healthcare, government or similarly regulated environments.
- Strong understanding of financial governance, compliance, audit and risk management.
- Experience leading financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and business performance analysis.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and advise senior executives and boards.
- A track record of leading high-performing teams, driving change and delivering continuous improvement outcomes.
