This is a client facing role within a consultancy that provides quantitative and economic advice to the electricity sector, combining modelling with custom software capability. The role involves working directly with clients to frame problems that inform commercial and strategic decisions across generation, network services and end user markets. Working knowledge of the Wholesale Electricity Market and National Electricity Market is required to translate market and regulatory dynamics into a clear analytical approach.
This suits someone comfortable working directly with client stakeholders and turning an ambiguous brief into a clear scope of work. The role offers autonomy over how engagements are run, within a firm with a solid track record in Australian electricity markets.
Responsibilities:
- Lead client engagements, acting as the primary point of contact and translating client questions into structured analytical approaches
- Apply working knowledge of the Wholesale Electricity Market and National Electricity Market to frame market, commercial and regulatory problems
- Produce clear problem statements, scoping documents and research summaries that guide subsequent modelling work
- Translate complex quantitative and modelling outputs into insights and recommendations for client stakeholders
- Identify the underlying decision an analysis needs to support, surfacing assumptions the client may not have raised
- Partner with technical and modelling colleagues to guide the implementation of tools and analysis
- Maintain awareness of evolving market rules, policy and regulation across both east coast and west coast electricity markets
- Support business development through client relationships and identification of new opportunities
Required Experience:
- 4+ years skilled experience in energy markets, market analysis, trading or a related field
- Working knowledge of both the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) and the National Electricity Market (NEM)
- Demonstrated ability to frame ambiguous problems clearly, including identifying hidden assumptions and stakeholders
- Strong written and verbal communication, comfortable engaging directly with client stakeholders
- Experience working alongside technical or modelling teams to guide implementation
- Experience working in the UAE or broader Middle East energy sector is highly regarded but not essential
Qualifications:
- Degree in economics, applied mathematics, engineering or a related quantitative discipline
