Role Description This is a full-time, on-site role based 30mins drive from Hobart CBD. This role involves spawning, larval rearing, and early-stage nursery operations to maintain healthy and consistent stock. Also required is continuous monitoring of water quality, feed regimes, and system performance, recording data and adjusting conditions to support optimal growth and survival.

Responsibilities include cleaning and maintaining tanks and equipment, performing routine health checks, and following biosecurity procedures. The role also requires working safely in a hands-on hatchery environment, collaborating with farm and operations staff.

Qualifications

Minimum 3-5 years





- Experience in aquaculture or marine biology, ideally with shellfish hatcheries.
- Strong practical skills in animal husbandry, including monitoring stock health, handling broodstock, and managing larval and juvenile stages.
- Ability to perform routine water quality testing, interpret basic environmental data, and adjust systems to maintain reliable growing conditions.
- Good physical fitness and willingness to work in a wet, hands-on environment, including repetitive manual tasks and occasional weekend or rostered shifts.
- Attention to detail, reliable record-keeping, and the ability to follow standard operating procedures and biosecurity guidelines.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively within a small team.
- Basic aptitude for maintaining pumps, filters, tanks, and hatchery infrastructure.
- Relevant qualification in aquaculture, marine science, environmental science, or equivalent practical experience is highly regarded.
- Current driver’s license and the right to work in Australia.
