About the role
Mainframe System Programmer A Mainframe Systems Programmer is responsible for the ongoing support and stability of the Mainframe platform while delivering a mix of technology projects and business as usual functions, such as implementing new functions and features, upgrade/maintenance of operating systems, system software and hardware, troubleshooting problems and performance issues.
Key duties (responsibilities and duties required for the position)
Duties and Responsibilities
· Lead the design, improvement and ongoing operation of the mainframe platform to ensure high availability, performance and resilience of critical systems
· Set technical direction and contribute to platform roadmaps and priorities, aligning mainframe capability with agency and divisional objectives
· Oversee delivery of system upgrades, enhancements and maintenance activities, ensuring risks are managed and services remain stable
· Provide expert advice on complex technical issues, guiding resolution of high-impact incidents and supporting continuous improvement of system reliability
· Work closely with internal teams, vendors and partners to deliver integrated solutions that meet service and security requirements
· Lead and influence automation and modernisation initiatives to improve efficiency, reduce risk and enhance system performance
· Contribute to planning, reporting and governance activities, including preparing input to briefs, performance reporting and strategic documentation
· Lead and develop staff by coaching, mentoring and building technical capability,
supporting a high-performing and engaged team
Key capabilities (skills/knowledge required for the position)
· Demonstrated depth of knowledge in one or more of the highly desired ICT technologies outlined in ‘knowledge required for the position’.
· Demonstrated knowledge and experience working in a large-scale and complex enterprise Mainframe setting.
· Experience with planning and managing the implementation of processes and procedures, tools and techniques for monitoring and managing the performance of technology services.
· Resolves highly complex, sensitive and/or escalated technical issues that are often time critical.
· Experience with monitoring the performance of delivery teams and the ability to take corrective action and in line with policies.
· Think critically and analytically to solve complex and sensitive problems.
· Develop and manage stakeholder relationships with technical and non-technical staff, executives and representatives from vendor organisations.
· Develop staff capability through coaching and mentoring.
Knowledge Required for the Position
Experience and knowledge across a breadth of ICT technologies or methodologies is highly desirable,
