HCB Solar

NSW/QLD (utility-scale solar project sites)

About Us

HCB Solar designs, engineers and delivers supporting mechanical infrastructure for utility-scale renewable energy(solar) projects across Australia. Our field and engineering teams work together to ensure mounting structures, tracker systems and associated mechanical assemblies are installed to specification, on time, and to a high standard of quality and safety.

About the Role

We're looking for a Mechanical Engineering Technician to support our engineering and construction teams across active utility-scale solar projects in NSW and QLD. This is a hands-on technical role that combines site-based installation oversight and quality verification with technical documentation and liaison with project engineers — ensuring mechanical works are delivered in line with engineering drawings, specifications and Australian Standards.

You'll work closely with other Mechanical Engineers, supporting them through testing, inspection, data analysis and on-the-ground problem solving as mechanical assemblies are installed and commissioned.

Key Responsibilities

· Coordinate and monitor mechanical and structural installation activities on site, checking work against engineering drawings, specifications and installation tolerances.

· Conduct field inspections and testing (including foundation/pile verification and dimensional checks) to confirm installation quality and compliance.

· Record, analyse and report technical and testing data to support engineering review and sign-off.

· Identify non-conforming work, assist in evaluating corrective actions, and coordinate close-out with QA personnel and project engineers.

· Liaise with installation crews, subcontractors,

surveyors and engineers to resolve technical issues as they arise on site.

· Prepare and maintain technical reports, inspection records, and construction/quality documentation.

· Support commissioning preparation, defect rectification, and completion of quality documentation ahead of handover.

· Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with relevant Australian Standards and workplace health and safety requirements.

What We're Looking For

· A Diploma, Advanced Diploma or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; or a minimum of three years' relevant hands-on experience in mechanical installation, testing, or QA/QC in lieu of formal qualification.

· Demonstrated experience in mechanical installation, inspection or testing, ideally on large-scale construction, industrial or renewable energy(solar) projects.

· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications, and to verify work against them on site.

· Sound understanding of quality assurance processes (ITPs, NCRs, inspection records) and relevant Australian Standards.

· Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with other engineers, surveyors, crews and subcontractors.

· Current driver's licence and willingness to travel to and work across regional project sites.

How to Apply

Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your relevant experience.

HCB Solar is an equal opportunity employer. This position is open to all suitably qualified candidates, including Australian citizens and permanent residents.
