Role Detail
As part of our pivotal wider Technology team, with over 100 nationally, you will be valued and respected.
Reporting to the Head of Technology Operation, you will lead the firm's network security operations capability. You will be responsible for the strategy, architecture, roadmap, delivery, operational management, resilience and continuous improvement of enterprise network infrastructure, cloud connectivity, network security services and related operational controls.
Working in close partnership with Information Security, you will ensure network and security platforms support the firm's cyber resilience and business continuity requirements.
Based in the Sydney CBD office, this role combines people leadership, technical direction, service ownership, project delivery and operational governance. You will ensure Mallesons' network and security platforms remain stable, secure, resilient and aligned to the firm's business needs.
Summary of key elements to the role:
- Lead enterprise network and security services across offices, data centres and cloud environments.
- Own service reliability, resilience, risk management and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide leadership during major incidents, cyber events and high-impact service outages.
- Partner with Information Security to strengthen cyber resilience and operational controls.
- Manage technology vendors, service providers and key infrastructure projects.
- Lead, coach and develop the Network and Security team

You are confident leading through complexity, communicating clearly with stakeholders and supporting your team through change with context, direction and timely communication.
You also bring
- Experience as a technology leader with 10+ years in enterprise network, infrastructure and security operations, including leading and developing technical teams.
- Deep expertise across network engineering, security operations and cloud connectivity, with strong knowledge of LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, firewalls, VPNs, remote access and network security controls.
- Enterprise-scale expertise across Cisco networking (Switching, Routing, Meraki and ISE), Palo Alto Networks, Azure Networking and hybrid connectivity, SD-WAN and VMware NSX, with a focus on modernising network architecture, security and connectivity.
- Experience with Zero Trust architectures, SASE/SSE, ZTNA, CASB, DLP and enterprise network access control solutions.
- Proven ability to drive operational excellence through incident management, service improvement, risk management, vulnerability remediation and ITIL-based practices, with experience working with ITSM platforms such as Jira Service Management
- Strong understanding of cyber security principles, security monitoring, threat detection and working closely with Information Security teams to support cyber resilience.
- Experienced in managing vendors, telecommunications providers, technology lifecycles and complex infrastructure projects.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and leadership skills,
with the ability to balance strategic initiatives and day-to-day operational priorities.
- Industry certifications such as CCNP, CISSP, CISM or equivalent.
- Knowledge of security frameworks such as ISO 27001, NIST and Essential Eight.
- Experience leading technology transformation, resilience, automation or security uplift programs.
- Background within a professional services or legal environment.
- SIEM/SOC and vulnerability management tools; DNS, DHCP, IPAM and network access control technologies
- Automation, scripting and infrastructure-as-code tooling
Flexibility for after hours support and weekend work may be required from time to time to support critical incidents and response, major service restoration, maintenance windows, disaster recovery activities and project delivery.
