Role Description The Optical Technician role is a full-time, on-site position based in Byron Bay, NSW.

The Optical

Technician will be responsible for operating and maintaining advanced grind, edging, and fitting equipment to manufacture high-quality prescription lenses. Day-to-day tasks include interpreting prescriptions, selecting appropriate lens blanks, performing precision lens surfacing and finishing, and conducting quality checks to ensure accuracy and visual performance. The role involves working within a laboratory environment, following safety and quality standards,



documenting production processes, and collaborating with team members to meet production timelines.

The Optical

Technician will also help troubleshoot equipment issues and support continuous improvement in manufacturing efficiency and sustainability.

Qualifications

- Candidates should possess strong optics knowledge and practical understanding of optical principles relevant to lens fabrication.
- Candidates should possess laboratory skills, including safe handling of equipment, adherence to quality control procedures, and attention to detail in manufacturing processes.
- Candidates should possess interpersonal skills and communication abilities to collaborate effectively with colleagues and, where required, optical practitioners.
- Candidates should possess basic familiarity with optical fiber or related technologies, or a willingness to learn adjacent optical systems as needed.
- Relevant experience in an optical laboratory, lens manufacturing, or optical dispensing is highly beneficial.
- Ability to read and interpret optical prescriptions and technical specifications accurately.
- Comfort working with automated and computer-controlled machinery; basic technical troubleshooting skills are an advantage.
- Commitment to workplace safety, environmental sustainability, and maintaining high production standards.
- A certificate or qualification in optical technology, laboratory science, or a related field is advantageous but not mandatory if equivalent experience is demonstrated.
