Primary objective
Provide specialist paediatric care to patients within the Paediatric Department of the Royal Darwin Hospital, regional hospitals and remote communities; and to contribute to post graduate education at Royal Darwin Hospital, including the supervision of paediatric trainees.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Provide specialist care of children in paediatric outpatients, incorporating supervision and teaching of junior staff.
- Participate in provision of specialist outreach paediatric services to regional hospitals and/or remote Top End communities.
- Provided specialised care to children admitted to the general paediatric ward on a roster basis, including afterhours cover
- Provide specialist care and advice on the management of children to non-paediatric colleagues within the hospital, and to colleagues in geographically isolated centres in the NT.
- Participate in continuous medical education including undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, professional development, peer review, research, and quality improvement activities.
- Collaborate with other medical, nursing, and allied health colleagues to review and revise policies, procedures and guidelines in line with national and international recommendations.
- Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
- Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
- Registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians and skills appropriate for general paediatric care.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact positively in a team and in a cross- cultural work environment.
- Flexibility; an ability to work in a complex and unpredictable setting.
- A demonstrated interest in and commitment to improving Indigenous health.
- Experience in acute and/ or developmental and behavioural paediatrics.
- An understanding of the importance of child protection, and trauma-informed care in our region.
- Evidence of commitment to continuing education, teaching, research and quality improvement activities.
Desirable
- Specific experience in neurodevelopmental paediatrics
- Previous experience working in the Northern Territory or similar setting.
- Experience contributing to the development and implementation of local/regional policy
