PONTIANAK, thekabarnews.com—Twin students Carissa Nafish Dzakiyah and Calista Nafish Dzakiyah will represent West Kalimantan in an arts performance at the State Palace in Jakarta. This will take place during Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day celebrations.
SMP Negeri 22 Pontianak students Carissa and Calista have earned places on the West Kalimantan performing arts team. The team will perform in the cultural program marking Indonesia’s national commemoration on August 17, 2026.
Carissa and Calista, who train with Pontianak’s Sanggar Kijang Berantai, are preparing to perform in a large-scale or colossal dance production.
The program will form part of the cultural presentation surrounding the ceremony marking the Moments of the Proclamation. The performance will take place during the subsequent lowering of Indonesia’s red-and-white flag.
Their selection gives the young dancers an opportunity to introduce West Kalimantan’s artistic identity. They will do so on one of Indonesia’s most prominent national stages.
Carissa and Calista are twin junior high school students from Pontianak, the capital of West Kalimantan. In addition to attending SMP Negeri 22, they receive dance training through Sanggar Kijang Berantai.
The Pontianak-based arts studio focuses on preserving and developing Malay dance and music. Academic research published by Tanjungpura University describes the studio as a cultural organization. It was established to sustain and develop Pontianak’s traditional performing arts.
The studio has also presented Malay dance at official events. In December 2025, its dancers performed Tari Basatu Bangun, a work centered on unity and togetherness. The performance occurred during an event at the Pontianak High Court.
Their father, Aipda Saifudin Suhri, a member of the West Kalimantan Police’s Samapta Directorate, expressed pride in his daughters’ achievement.
He also thanked SMP Negeri 22 Pontianak, Sanggar Kijang Berantai and the Indonesian Tourism Ministry for supporting the twins. They gave them the prospect to perform in Jakarta.
The performance will take place within the broader celebration of Indonesia’s 81st year of independence. The government has adopted “Indonesia Berdaulat, Adil, dan Makmur” as the official theme of the 2026 commemoration.
The State Secretariat said the anniversary’s visual identity draws inspiration from Indonesia’s diverse traditional patterns.
It presents cultural diversity as a source of national unity.
The government selected the official logo after receiving 68,569 public votes. The winning design secured 44.73 percent, according to the State Secretariat.
For Carissa and Calista, the Jakarta appearance is more than a school achievement.
It shows how sustained training by families, schools and local arts organizations can take regional culture from community studios to a national audience.
