Position Title: Principal Advocacy Advisor

Salary from: $118,433 (level 7.1) per annum + Superannuation

Location: Logan City Council Administration Centre

The rol eReporting to the Manager Advocacy, this position will see you provide specialist advice and expertise, to progress council’s advocacy agenda that seeks to influence policy and investment decisions that benefit the City of Logan

.

Sitting within the Advocacy Program, this team works with the Mayor, Councillors, the Executive Leadership Team and Council SMEs to identify advocacy priorities and provide strategic advice on progressing these prioritie s.

Working closely with the Transform Logan program, your role is critical in delivering on evidence based, investment ready proposals that are coordinated across council and deliver on the city’s 50-year vision, (Logan 2075), guiding growth, investment and community outcomes for generations to co me.

Position responsibilities incl

- ude:Degree qualifications in public relations, business, economics, political science, media and communications or other relevant field or significant relevant experie
- nce.Provide expert, senior specialist advice and judgement in providing proactive, expert and timely written and/or verbal advocacy advice on complex federal, state and local issues to the mayor, deputy mayor, relevant committee chairperson, chief executive officer, executive general managers, general managers and other key Council stakehold
- ers.Undertake research on policy matters, monitor legislative changes and analyse trends and their impact on Council’s advocacy priorities and objecti
- ves.Provide strategic policy advice, messaging and propose advocacy plans to advance Council’s advocacy priorities and objecti
- ves.Identify key issues, plan how to influence relevant stakeholders, recommend actions, assess risks and suggest ways to achieve organisational outco
- mes.Prepare submissions to state and federal governments on policy matters, as part of senate or parliamentary inquiries or as part of other identified advocacy opportunit
- ies.Lead advocacy projects, including leading their presentations, meetings and consulting for
- ums.Engage with government departments, agencies, other local governments, community leaders, peak bodies and stakeholders to advance councils advocacy age
- nda.Proactively lead the internal coordination, development and implementation of Council’s advocacy agenda ensuring organisational support, alignment of priorities and achievement of shared objecti
