About the Role
We are seeking a reliable and physically capable Rolling Stock Support / Trade Assistant to assist tradespeople with overhaul and project work on passenger railcars and associated rolling stock equipment.
This is a hands-on position involving a significant amount of manual labour, including tasks performed above shoulder height. Candidates will need a good level of physical fitness and be comfortable working in a busy rail maintenance workplace.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist qualified tradespeople with rolling stock overhaul and project work
- Support the removal, replacement and installation of mechanical components
- Use hand and power tools safely and effectively
- Perform manual handling and labour-intensive duties
- Complete work above shoulder height for extended periods
- Move equipment, components and materials around the workshop
- Assist with cleaning, preparation and general workshop duties
- Follow technical instructions, workplace procedures and safety requirements
- Maintain a clean, organised and hazard-free work area
- Participate in regular overtime and weekend maintenance work when required
About You
- Previous experience as a Trade Assistant, Workshop Assistant or Mechanical Labourer
- Experience in rail, mechanical, automotive, manufacturing or heavy industry is advantageous
- Physically fit and capable of completing repetitive manual work
- Comfortable working above shoulder height
- Confident using hand and power tools
- Reliable, punctual and safety focused
- Able to follow instructions and work effectively within a team
- Willing to undertake overtime and weekend work
- Forklift licence is highly regarded
Requirements
- Current Australian driver’s licence
- Full Australian working rights
- Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical
- Ability to pass ongoing drug and alcohol testing
- Forklift licence is desirable but not essential
What’s on Offer
- $50.74 per hour + penalties
- Monday-to-Friday day shift
- 6:00am–2:30pm
