Role Description The Senior Environmental Advisor is a full-time, on-site role based in Canberra, supporting the delivery of major civil infrastructure projects. This role oversees environmental planning and compliance across project phases, including the development, implementation, and monitoring of environmental management plans.
The Senior Environmental
Advisor conducts site inspections, audits, and risk assessments, provides guidance to project teams and subcontractors, and ensures adherence to relevant legislation, approvals, and company standards.
Responsibilities include managing environmental reporting, supporting stakeholder and regulator engagement, contributing to sustainability initiatives, and driving continuous improvement in environmental performance.
The role involves close collaboration with engineering, construction, safety, and community teams to embed best-practice environmental outcomes in day-to-day project activities.
Qualifications
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resource Management, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in environmental management on civil infrastructure or construction projects, preferably in roads, rail, or related sectors.
- Solid knowledge of Australian environmental legislation, approvals processes, and regulatory requirements, including impact assessment and compliance monitoring.
- Experience developing and implementing Environmental Management Plans, conducting risk assessments, and leading environmental audits and site inspections.
- Proficiency in data analysis, environmental reporting, and use of digital tools or software for tracking performance and preparing documentation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to coach project teams and influence positive environmental outcomes.
- Proven capability in problem-solving, incident investigation, and implementing corrective and preventive actions in a project environment.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, manage competing priorities, and operate effectively in a dynamic on-site setting.
- Professional certifications or memberships (e.g., EIANZ or similar), and experience with sustainability, biodiversity, or cultural heritage considerations are highly regarded.
