An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced technology and regulatory lawyer to join a leading organisation at the forefront of data, digital innovation and responsible AI. This senior legal position will play a key role in advising on emerging technologies, enterprise governance frameworks and regulatory compliance across a complex and evolving business environment.
Working closely with senior stakeholders across legal, technology, risk and compliance functions, you will help guide the organisation's approach to data governance, artificial intelligence and related regulatory obligations.
The Role
This is a strategically important position focused on providing commercially pragmatic legal advice on data management, privacy, technology and AI governance matters. The successful candidate will contribute to governance initiatives, influence policy development and support the implementation of frameworks that promote the responsible and compliant use of data and emerging technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise business leaders on legal and regulatory issues relating to data governance, artificial intelligence, privacy, technology and intellectual property.
- Support the development and enhancement of enterprise governance frameworks covering data and AI practices.
- Assist in establishing governance standards that promote effective management, protection and use of organisational data assets.
- Assess regulatory and legal risks arising from emerging technologies and provide practical risk mitigation strategies.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting privacy, data usage and artificial intelligence, and provide guidance on organisational readiness.
- Collaborate with technology, risk, compliance and operational teams on governance projects and strategic initiatives.
- Support reviews, investigations and responses relating to data incidents,
technology risks or governance concerns.
- Deliver education and awareness initiatives to improve understanding of data and AI governance obligations across the business.
About You To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- An Australian practising certificate and admission to practise law in Australia.
- Approximately 6 plus years' post-qualification experience, including significant exposure to privacy, technology, data or AI-related legal matters.
- Strong knowledge of Australian privacy and data regulations, together with an understanding of emerging AI governance developments.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to deliver commercially focused legal advice.
- Experience operating in a sophisticated corporate, regulatory or highly regulated environment.
- Robust analytical skills, sound judgement and a solutions-oriented approach.
- An interest in technology innovation and the evolving regulation of AI and digital transformation initiatives.
