Your Opportunity
The Senior Mechanical Engineer provides technical leadership and engineering assurance across TPG Telecom's telecommunications Data Centre and MTX facilities, with a particular focus on critical mechanical infrastructure, cooling systems, environmental resilience and facility performance.
The role provides expert challenge and oversight of mechanical, HVAC, cooling and specialist facilities service providers to ensure TPG maintains sufficient internal capability to make informed engineering decisions regarding critical data centre infrastructure assets.
You'll Make Impact By
- Act as the technical authority for critical mechanical, cooling and environmental infrastructure across telecommunications Data Centre and MTX environments.
- Maintain, develop and continuously improve mechanical engineering standards, technical requirements, maintenance practices and operational guidance for: CRAC, CRAH and precision cooling systems
- Chilled water systems, pumps, valves and associated mechanical plant
- Air handling units, ventilation and airflow management
- Heat rejection systems, condensers and cooling towers
- Building management systems and environmental monitoring
- Fire, hydraulic and mechanical support systems relevant to data centre operations
- Mechanical redundancy, resilience and capacity management
- Ensure mechanical engineering decisions align with telecommunications data centre requirements, manufacturer standards, safety obligations and industry best practice.
- Act as TPG Telecom's mechanical engineering representative in technical engagements with HVAC, cooling, mechanical plant and specialist data centre service providers.
- Provide technical oversight and assurance of preventative maintenance programs delivered across telecommunications Data Centre and MTX mechanical infrastructure.
- Lead asset criticality assessments and reliability reviews across critical mechanical, cooling and environmental infrastructure, providing leadership visibility of these reviews, findings and outcomes.[CR1.1]
- Act as the technical custodian of cooling, HVAC and mechanical asset health standards across telecommunications Data Centre and MTX environments.
- Develop and maintain lifecycle strategies and asset management plans for critical mechanical,
cooling and facilities infrastructure.
- Develop long-term infrastructure roadmaps for MTX and Data Centre facilities.
- Lead technical investigations into significant cooling, HVAC, environmental, fire, hydraulic and facilities-related incidents.
- Develop mechanical asset reliability, cooling resilience and environmental performance improvement plans across the Data Centre and MTX estate.
What You’ll Bring
- Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- 10+ years' experience managing critical mechanical, cooling or facilities infrastructure within telecommunications, data centres, utilities or other mission-critical environments.
- Strong knowledge of: CRAC, CRAH and precision cooling systems
- Chilled water, condenser water and heat rejection systems
- HVAC plant, pumps, valves, air handling units and ventilation systems
- Airflow management, thermal performance and environmental monitoring
- Building management systems and controls interfaces relevant to mechanical operations
- Fire, hydraulic and mechanical support systems within critical facilities
- Mechanical redundancy, resilience, capacity planning and lifecycle management
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical asset reliability, lifecycle planning, condition assessment and engineering assurance.
- Experience conducting mechanical engineering investigations, root cause analysis and technical risk assessments within critical facilities environments.
- Experience managing or overseeing specialist engineering and maintenance service providers.
Ideally, You Will Also Have
- Chartered Qualified Engineer (CPEng).
- Experience within telecommunications network facilities, Data Centres and MTX environments.
- Data Centre infrastructure experience.
- Knowledge of data centre cooling efficiency, environmental monitoring, capacity management and resilience practices.
- Reliability engineering, mechanical services, HVAC or data centre infrastructure qualifications or certifications.
