Role Summary

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join Agentic — the team whose mission is to make InDebted AI-first and AI-led. We're building the most intelligent collections platform in the market: AI that writes customer communications, evaluates messages and documents for quality and compliance, resolves customer requests end to end, and speaks with customers directly by voice. This position is based in our Sydney office on a hybrid basis (3 days per week in office), keeping you in close day-to-day alignment with our engineering practices, standards, and the wider team.

You will design, build, and operate AI-powered product capabilities end to end — from prompt and evaluation design through to production services handling real customer conversations across email, SMS and voice. This role goes well beyond coding: you are measured by the impact you deliver, the quality of your engineering, and how safely and effectively your AI performs in front of real customers.

with rapid experimentation as a core part of the job.

Duties & responsibilities

1. Product delivery

- Design, build, and ship AI-powered capabilities across our in-house platform Collect — from prompt and evaluation design through to production services, working closely with product and the rest of your team.
- Contribute to architectural decisions and technical direction for how AI agents operate inside the platform.
- Take ownership of work from conception to production, including monitoring and continuous improvement.

2. AI safety and quality

- Build the orchestration that lets AI agents act safely in a regulated domain: compliance evaluation, guardrails, and human-in-the-loop escalation when the AI shouldn't act alone.
- Hold your work to hard numbers — we measure engagement, conversion and cost to collect.

3. Reliability and incident ownership

- Build observable, resilient services — and own what you ship once it's in production, including how models behave in front of customers.
- Diagnose and resolve incidents in the systems your team owns, and feed the learnings back into the platform.

4. Experimentation

- Rapidly prototype with new models and capabilities as they're released, measure honestly, and turn the winners into durable production systems.
- Treat using AI to reduce manual work as a first-class priority.

5. Collaboration and mentoring

- Come to stakeholders with clear trade-offs ("if I do X, Y slips by Z weeks") rather than waiting for instructions.
- Communicate solutions clearly, give thoughtful code review, and maintain a high standard of technical communication.
- Mentor other engineers and help raise the engineering bar through pairing, feedback, and knowledge sharing.

What we're looking for





- A genuine interest in building AI products — including AI voice and AI-driven digital communications, the newest frontier of what we build.
- Hands-on experience using AI tools in your day-to-day engineering, and genuine enthusiasm for adopting new ones — this is central to how we work and matters more to us than any specific language or framework.
- A product-oriented mindset: you focus on outcomes and align your work with results, owning a metric rather than just a codebase.
- An open mind for new technologies: curious to explore new models as they land, quick to incorporate what works, and with the judgement to know when not to.
- Comfort operating with ambiguity and ownership — scoping loosely-defined problems, making pragmatic trade-offs, and driving outcomes without waiting to be told what to do.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences and build trust.
- Experience with Domain-Driven Design, proficiency in Test-Driven Development (TDD), and a commitment to writing maintainable code.
- Care for safety and quality: our AI talks to real customers in a regulated industry, so evaluation and guardrails matter as much as capability.

Non-negotiable behavioural expectations

- Take ownership — drive outcomes, surface problems, and propose solutions proactively rather than defaulting to "I just do what I'm told".
- Prepare for meetings — come with context, updates, and decisions; don't rehash decisions from previous calls.
- Show up for the team — be present in the Sydney office (3 days per week) and engaged with your team day to day.

Nice to have

- Event sourcing / CQRS experience.
- Go and AWS serverless (Lambda, SNS/SQS).
- Hands-on LLM application experience: prompt engineering, evals, agent orchestration.
- Voice or contact-centre platform experience.
- Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tooling.
