About the role

We are seeking a talented Cook/Chef to join our kitchen team at PJs in the City in Canberra, ACT 2600. This is a full-time position that offers an excellent chance to showcase your culinary skills and contribute to our reputation for outstanding food. As Cook/Chef, you will play a vital role in preparing and presenting high-quality dishes that delight our guests. You will work as part of a dynamic kitchen team, taking responsibility for food preparation, cooking techniques and maintaining our high standards of presentation and hygiene.

What you'll be doing

- Preparing and cooking a variety of dishes according to our menu specifications and recipes

- Maintaining exceptional standards of food presentation and plating

- Ensuring all food preparation areas are kept clean and organised in compliance with food safety regulations

- Managing food stocks and informing management of supplies that need replenishing

- Working collaboratively with other kitchen staff and front-of-house team to ensure smooth service

- Following all health and safety protocols and food handling procedures

- Adapting to special dietary requirements and guest requests where possible

- Contributing to the development of menu items and sharing ideas for culinary improvements





- Assisting with food cost control and waste reduction initiatives

What we're looking for

- Proven experience working as a Cook or Chef in a hospitality environment

- Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods and food safety standards

- Ability to work efficiently under pressure whilst maintaining high standards of quality

- Excellent attention to detail, particularly with food presentation and plating

- Relevant qualifications such as a hospitality or culinary qualification, or demonstrated equivalent experience

- A valid Food Safety Certificate or willingness to obtain one

- Strong teamwork and communication skills

- Physical stamina to work on your feet for extended periods

- Flexibility with working hours, including evenings and weekends as required

- Passion for hospitality and a genuine commitment to delivering excellent service

- Experience with diverse cuisines or cooking styles is advantageous
