The Clinical Research Coordinator will work within a small team of researchers to coordinate and support clinically based research programs within a healthcare environment at Perth Children's Hospital. The role provides research, operational, and administrative support to the Research Manager and the clinical research team to facilitate the delivery of high-quality research projects across the research portfolio.
The successful applicant will contribute to project coordination, study development, academic writing, data management, research governance, and stakeholder engagement activities. This includes preparing research protocols, ethics and governance submissions and amendments, study reports, manuscripts, presentations, and grant-related documentation, while supporting the management of research data and study records in accordance with institutional and regulatory requirements.
The position reports to the Research Manager, and works with the research team to support delivery, administration, and continuous development of the research program. The role is intended for an experienced research qualified who can work independently and collaboratively across the research team, providing practical support to clinical researchers, investigators and the Research Manager.
The role suits a proactive person who has clinical and research experience, strong written and verbal communication skills. The role also involves representing the Fiona Wood Foundation in interactions with participants, clinical staff, research collaborators, and the wider community, while contributing to the Foundation’s broader research, education, and engagement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Research Coordination
- Coordinate participant recruitment, consent, and follow-up activities in accordance with approved protocols and ethics requirements.
- Coordinate research visits, assessments, and study procedures in collaboration with clinical and research staff.
- Monitor study progress and assist in ensuring recruitment and study milestones are achieved.
- Maintain study documentation, investigator site files, and essential regulatory records.
- Liaise with participants, clinicians, investigators, and the clinical research team to facilitate study delivery.
Data Management
- Maintain study databases and data collection systems.
- Enter,
manage, and maintain research data with a high level of accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality.
- Conduct data quality checks and assist with query resolution.
- Ensure research data are stored and managed in accordance with ethical, privacy, and institutional requirements.
- Develop and maintain study databases and data collection systems, including REDCap where appropriate.
- Support data extraction, reporting, and preliminary data analysis activities.
Academic Writing and Research Support
- Draft and edit research reports, protocols, study documentation, and standard operating procedures.
- Prepare and maintain ethics and governance submissions, amendments, annual reports, and compliance documentation.
- Contribute to manuscript preparation, literature reviews, conference abstracts, and grant applications.
- Support quality improvement activities and ensure research activities are conducted in accordance with GCP and regulatory requirements.
Operational and Administrative Support
- Provide administrative and operational support to the Research Manager.
- Assist with tracking project timelines, milestones, budgets, and reporting requirements.
- Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas and minutes, and follow up action items.
- Establish and maintain systems to support efficient research delivery and high-quality outputs.
- Facilitate integration of research within clinical services to support evidence-based practice and service innovation.
- Contribute to strategic planning and growth of the research program, including identification of new funding and collaboration opportunities.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, study training, and research governance activities
- Present study updates, recruitment outcomes, or project findings at meetings and internal forums as required
Foundation Support and Community Engagement
- Assist with consumer engagement initiatives.
- Develop consumer-facing materials and resources that improve understanding and engagement with research activities.
- Foster collaborative relationships with consumers, carers, community representatives, clinicians, and research teams to ensure research remains relevant and responsive to community needs.
- Support the Foundation’s broader research initiatives, educational programs, and community engagement activities
- Act as a professional representative of the Fiona Wood Foundation when interacting with participants, clinical staff, research partners, and external stakeholders
Selection Criteria
Essential
- Relevant undergraduate degree qualification in a health, nursing, allied health, science, public health, or related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating clinical or health-related research projects.
- Experience preparing research protocols, ethics submissions, governance applications, amendments, and research reports.
- Demonstrated academic writing skills, including manuscript or grant-writing support.
- Experience managing research data and databases with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent computer literacy.
- Sound understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), research ethics, and governance requirements.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, particularly with patients, clinical staff, and community stakeholders.
- Ability to represent the Fiona Wood Foundation professionally and respectfully.
- Current Working with Children Check.
Desirable
- Previous experience in clinical research, healthcare, or patient-facing roles
- Experience supporting research programs, public engagement, or community activities
- Honours degree or intention to pursue postgraduate research
- Experience with REDCap and/or other electronic data capture systems.
- Experience supporting statistical analysis and data reporting.
- Experience establishing or supporting consumer advisory groups, stakeholder engagement programs, or co-design activities.
