The Role: Activating the System
KAMS / ICOVE is seeking a Principal Policy Officer to join its growing national team, working remotely from anywhere in Australia. Reporting to the Director of Policy, you'll help develop evidence-based policy, strengthen advocacy, and build productive relationships across the First Nations VET sector.
Here's What You'll Be Working On
- Develop policy papers, submissions, briefing notes, and strategic advice supporting ICOVE's priorities.
- Build productive relationships across government, ACCOs, education providers, and key sector stakeholders.
- Monitor policy developments to identify opportunities to strengthen First Nations vocational education.
- Represent ICOVE on committees, working groups, and stakeholder forums.
- Undertake research and policy analysis to support informed decision-making and advocacy.
Your Profile: Practical, Strategic and Delivery-Focused
- Demonstrated experience developing, analysing, and implementing policy within government or community sectors.
- Strong written communication skills, including preparing reports, submissions, and briefing papers.
- Relevant qualification in Public Policy, Law, Social Sciences, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
- Knowledge of the National Skills Agreement,
Closing the Gap reforms, or First Nations policy (highly regarded).

The Indigenous Centre of Vocational Excellence (ICOVE) is a First Nations-led national initiative delivered in partnership between Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services (KAMS) and Tranby Aboriginal Co-operative to strengthen the VET system for First Nations people.
