Key Responsibilities
Payroll and Employee Records
- Manage end-to-end processing of weekly payroll, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.
- Calculate leave, overtime, allowances, superannuation, PAYG withholding and other statutory deductions.
- Interpret Up-to-date Awards, employment agreements and relevant payroll obligations.
- Manage payroll reconciliations, reporting and payroll-related audit requirements.
- Maintain accurate employee payroll records, including new starters, changes, leave, terminations and other employment updates.
- Respond to payroll enquiries and provide practical guidance to employees and managers.
- Ensure payroll processes comply with Fair Work, ATO, superannuation and other relevant legislative requirements.
- Support continuous improvement of payroll processes, reporting and system workflows.
Recruitment and Selection
- Coordinate recruitment activities for new and replacement roles across the organisation.
- Prepare and post job advertisements, manage applications and coordinate interview arrangements.
- Communicate with candidates throughout the recruitment process in a professional and timely manner.
- Conduct reference checks, background checks and pre-employment administration where required.
- Assist managers with shortlisting, interview coordination and recruitment documentation.
- Prepare employment offers, contracts and related onboarding paperwork.
- Maintain recruitment records and ensure hiring processes are consistent, fair and compliant.
Onboarding and Employee Lifecycle
- Coordinate the onboarding process for new employees to ensure a smooth and professional employee experience.
- Prepare onboarding documentation, employee files, system access requests and induction schedules.
- Liaise with managers to ensure new starters are properly welcomed, equipped and supported.
- Support probation review processes and follow up with managers on required documentation.
- Manage employee changes, including role changes, salary updates, reporting line changes and employment variations.
- Coordinate offboarding activities, including termination documentation, final pay inputs, exit checklists and employee record updates.
- Maintain accurate employee records across HR, payroll and related systems.
HR Administration and Compliance
- Support the preparation and maintenance of HR policies, procedures, templates and employee documentation.
- Assist with employment contract administration and ensure documentation is consistent and up to date.
- Support compliance with employment legislation, Fair Work requirements, Modern Awards, workplace policies and internal procedures.
- Maintain confidential employee records and ensure HR information is handled appropriately.
- Prepare HR reports, workforce data, leave reports and other people-related reporting as required.
- Assist with audits, compliance reviews and process improvements across payroll and HR.
Employee and Manager Support
- Act as a first point of contact for general HR, payroll and employment-related queries.
- Provide practical guidance to employees and managers on HR processes, policies, leave, payroll and employee lifecycle matters.
- Support managers with performance review administration, probation follow-ups and employee documentation.
- Assist with employee relations matters by coordinating documentation, meetings and follow-up actions where required.
- Escalate complex employment, performance or compliance matters to senior management or external advisers as appropriate.
- Help promote a positive, professional and supportive employee experience across the business.
Systems and Process Improvement
- Maintain accurate data in Employment Hero and other HR/payroll systems.
- Identify opportunities to improve HR, payroll, onboarding and recruitment processes.
- Support implementation of better workflows, templates, checklists and reporting tools.
- Assist with system updates, process documentation and employee self-service improvements.
- Contribute to the development of consistent and scalable people processes as the organisation grows.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience in payroll, HR administration, people operations or a similar role.
- Strong understanding of payroll processes, employment legislation, superannuation, tax and Fair Work obligations.
- Experience interpreting Modern Awards and employment agreements.
- Exposure to recruitment, onboarding and employee lifecycle administration.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage confidential information appropriately.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to support employees and managers professionally.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach to HR and payroll matters.
- Confidence using HR/payroll systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience with Employment Hero will be highly regarded.
