About the role

Switch Steel Fabrication is seeking a skilled and experienced Metal Fabricator to join our growing team in Hastings, Victoria. This is a full time position based at our Hastings VIC 3915 facility. As a Metal Fabricator, you will play a crucial role in our operations, transforming raw materials into precision metal components and structures that meet our clients' specifications. This position is essential to maintaining our reputation for quality workmanship and on-time delivery in the welding and boilermaking industry.

Key responsibilities

1. Interpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints and specifications to fabricate metal components and structures

2. Operate and maintain various metal fabrication equipment including shearing machines, punches, and hydraulic presses

3. Perform precision measuring and marking of materials to ensure accurate cuts and bends

4. Prepare materials for welding by cleaning, degreasing and positioning components

5. Assist welders and boilermakers by preparing assemblies and sub-assemblies as required

6. Conduct quality checks on completed fabrications to ensure they meet specified tolerances and standards

7. Maintain a safe and organised work environment, adhering to all health and safety protocols

Identify and report any defects or issues with materials or equipment to supervisors

9. Collaborate effectively with team members including welders, engineers and other fabrication staff

10. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and provide feedback on fabrication processes

What we're looking for

1. Trade qualification or recognised apprenticeship in metal fabrication, welding, or a related trade

2. Proven experience working as a metal fabricator in a commercial or industrial setting

3. Competency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints

4. Sound knowledge of various metal fabrication techniques and equipment operation

5. Strong understanding of health and safety requirements specific to metal fabrication work

6. Ability to work with precision and attention to detail, maintaining high quality standards

7. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to identify issues with materials or processes

8. Strong communication and teamwork abilities, with the capacity to work collaboratively in a team environment

9. Physical fitness and capability to perform manual labour tasks and lift heavy materials

10. Reliability, punctuality and a commitment to workplace safety

11. Current Victorian Driver's Licence
