THE OPPORTUNITY
The Head of Department – Business and Humanities is responsible for the strategic leadership, curriculum development and operational management of the College's Business and Humanities learning areas. This position will lead the delivery of Economics, Business, Accounting and Legal Studies programs while supporting outstanding student achievement and teacher excellence.
This position is ideally suited to an experienced Senior Economics educator and current or former Head of Department who brings exceptional curriculum knowledge, proven leadership capability, strong industry connections and a passion for shaping innovative, future-focused learning opportunities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and develop a high-performaing Business and Humanities department
- Lead and develop a high-performing Business and Humanities department
- Drive excellence in Economics, Business, Accounting and Legal Studies programs
- Provide strategic curriculum leadership across the Australian Curriculum and senior pathways
- Mentor, support and develop teaching staff to achieve exceptional educational outcomes
- Lead curriculum planning, review, innovation and pedagogical excellence
- Foster student engagement, achievement and academic success
- Build and maintain strong industry, tertiary and professional networks that enhance learning opportunities
- Promote entrepreneurship, leadership and future-focused learning experiences
- Use data-informed practices to evaluate and improve academic performance
- Foster strong relationships with students, families, staff and the broader College community
ABOUT YOU
- Previous Head of Department, Assistant Head of Department or significant curriculum leadership experience highly regarded
- Extensive experience teaching Senior Economics, with a demonstrated record of outstanding student outcomes
- Strong knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and Senior Secondary Economics, Business, Accounting and Legal Studies programs
- Demonstrated capacity to lead curriculum innovation and academic excellence
- Well-established professional and industry networks within Economics, Business, Finance, Law or related sectors
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, mentor and develop high-performing teams
- Proven ability to develop and implement strategic and operational plans
- Capacity to foster student innovation, entrepreneurship, analytical thinking and leadership
- Excellent relationship-building skills with students, parents, colleagues and external stakeholders
- Effective organisational, data analysis, problem-solving and curriculum writing skills
- High standards of professionalism, integrity, discretion and resilience
- Queensland College of Teachers registration
- Current First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
