Senior Financial Accountant

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to join a respected residential aged care and retirement living provider. Reporting to the Executive Finance Consultant, you will play a pivotal leadership role overseeing the day-to-day finance function while leading a small finance team. This hands-on position combines operational leadership, financial accounting, compliance, and process improvement, offering the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to an organisation dedicated to supporting its community.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership

- Lead the day-to-day finance operations across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, resident billing, payroll inputs, and account reconciliations.
- Coordinate month-end close activities to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Allocate and oversee workflow across the Finance Officer, Accounts & Payroll Officer, Payroll Officer, and Finance Coordinator.
- Resolve operational finance issues and escalate complex matters to the Executive Finance Consultant where required.

Resident Billing, RAD/DAP & Retirement Living

- Oversee resident billing, fee schedules, government subsidies, and account adjustments.
- Ensure accurate processing and compliance of RAD/DAP transactions and documentation.
- Support Retirement Living billing processes, resident accounts, and financial enquiries.
- Liaise professionally with residents, families, and external service providers regarding billing matters.

Financial Accounting & Compliance





- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist with BAS preparation, statutory reporting, and external audit requirements.
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, accounting standards, and internal policies.

Month-End & Financial Reporting

- Prepare month-end journals, schedules, and reconciliations.
- Contribute to reporting packs for Executive Finance Consultant review, including QFR and ACFR reporting.
- Analyse financial results and identify variances, anomalies, and potential risks.

Team Leadership & Development

- Provide leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to the finance team.
- Promote strong documentation practices and consistent financial processes.
- Act as the primary point of contact for finance-related operational enquiries.

Systems & Process Improvement

- Maintain ERP system integrity and support ongoing system optimisation.
- Identify opportunities to improve finance processes and operational efficiency.
- Strengthen internal controls and implement best-practice financial procedures.

Decision-Making Authority

- Make operational finance decisions within approved policies and compliance frameworks.
- Approve routine journals, reconciliations, and accounting adjustments.
- Prioritise workflow and allocate team responsibilities.




- Escalate strategic, high-risk, or complex matters to the Executive Finance Consultant.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

- CPA or CA qualification with a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience in financial accounting within the Aged Care sector.
- Strong experience managing month-end close processes and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Experience leading or coordinating finance operations and workflows.
- High proficiency with ERP systems and the ability to quickly learn new platforms.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
- Experience across both Aged Care and Retirement Living financial environments.
- Exposure to external audits and continuous process improvement initiatives.
- Previous experience in a senior finance position with responsibility for operational finance outcomes.
- Experience acting as the primary escalation point for finance and accounting matters.
- Proven authority over aged care billing, Retirement Living financial processes, and month-end reporting activities.
