Position Purpose:

The Mechanical Engineering - Draftsperson is an essential role within VanHomes design and production process, supporting the creation of engineering drawings, floor plans, and 3D models to facilitate manufacturing operations. This role performs hands-on drafting tasks under supervision, assisting production teams with accurate design outputs. By contributing to design efficiency and product development, the role supports VanHomes reputation for high-quality relocatable homes, assisting the Engineering Lead in achieving design goals.

Key Responsibilities:

- Create engineering drawings for fabrication of custom frames under the guidance of the Design Engineer and Drafting Coordinator

- Develop 2D floor plans for the assembly team to support production workflows

- Assist in developing 3D models using SolidWorks (CAD) to validate component integration

- Review technical drawings and report discrepancies to the Engineering Lead

- Support the preparation of design and drafting plans to meet production deadlines

- Collaborate with production teams to gather information and resolve minor design issues

- Maintain accurate records of design activities in ClickUp and other systems

- Assist in ensuring designs comply with Australian Standards (e.g., AS 1100) and safety requirements

- Provide basic technical support to production teams during design implementation

- Execute ad-hoc tasks assigned by the Design Engineer and Drafting Coordinator to support design objectives





Selection Criteria:

Essential:

- Certificate IV in Drafting or equivalent and 2+ years’ equivalent experience in drafting or design

- Basic proficiency in SolidWorks (CAD) and 2D drafting tools

- Understanding of manufacturing processes and technical drawing standards

- Good communication skills for collaborating with team members

Desirable:

- Experience in the manufactured homes industry

- Familiarity with ClickUp or similar project management tools
