St George’s Anglican Grammar School is seeking to appoint a dynamic, strategic, and people-focused Head of Learning Area – Mathematics to build on the outstanding successes of a highly regarded and experienced department. This opportunity arises as our current Head transitions into a broader pastoral care leadership role within the School.
St George’s Anglican Grammar School is a unique vertical school located in the heart of the City of Perth across two campus sites at 50 William Street and 441 Murray Street. THE OPPORTUNITY
As a key middle leader, the Head of Learning Area – Mathematics plays a pivotal role in driving excellence in teaching and learning across Years 7–12. You will lead a passionate, collegial and enthusiastic mathematics department team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Working closely with the Dean of Teaching & Learning, you will:
- Lead the strategic direction of Mathematics, aligning with the School’s Strategic Plan and more broadly AngliSchools ‘Vision for Learning’.
- Champion engaging, academically rigorous, and future-focused Mathematics programs across Years 7 – 12.
- Use data-informed practice to enhance student achievement, development and growth.
- Inspire both students and staff to pursue excellence and a deep-seated curiosity in Mathematics.
With strong enrolment in Mathematics Methods and Specialist Mathematics in Years 11 and 12, this role offers a unique opportunity to further elevate an already highly successful and well regarded department.

You are an accomplished educator and an inspiring leader with a genuine passion for Mathematics and for developing others. You bring vision, energy, and a commitment to excellence to your department.
You will:
- Demonstrate exceptional teaching practice and deep curriculum expertise
- Lead with clarity, empathy, and purpose, building a cohesive and high-performing team
- Drive cutting-edge teaching approaches, integrating technology to enhance student engagement and understanding
- Foster a culture of high expectations, collaboration, and reflective practice
- Be confident using data to inform teaching and improve student outcomes
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and families
- Promote Mathematics across the school, including co-curricular opportunities such as Maths Week
- Support and mentor early career teachers, building capability across the team
- Bring creativity to curriculum design, including developing engaging electives to enhance mathematical skills and understanding
- Demonstrate solid organisational, analytical, and budget management skills
- Be supportive of your team to build collegiality, camaraderie and a positive team spirit.
The ability to teach Year 11 & 12 Mathematics Methods and Specialist Mathematics would be considered highly desirable in our appointment of our next Head of Learning Area - Mathematics.

1. An A4 one-page cover letter outlining your passion and enthusiasm for the teaching of Mathematics across Years 7 – 12 as well as your leadership experience and what you’d hope to achieve in your first 6 months as the newly appointed Head of Learning Area – Mathematics.
2. A detailed CV, including the contact details of three professional referees.
3. Copies of any relevant qualifications including your TRBWA registration details and current WWCC.
