Primary responsibilities Machinist

• Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines,

• Manufacture rods, glands, pistons, barrels, bases, fittings, bushes

• Review specifications for a job.

• Calculate where to cut or bore.

• Shape steel, aluminum, other materials.

• Determine how quick or slow workpiece is fed into machine.

• Determine how much material to remove.

• Select tools and materials for the job.

• Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations.

• Mark the workpiece to show where cuts should be made.

• Position workpiece on the lathe or milling machine.

• Monitor and control feed rate and speed.

• Ensure workpiece is properly lubricated and/or cooled.

• Regulate temperature of workpiece.

• Detect problems by listening for specific sounds.

• Adjust cutting speed to compensate for harmonic vibrations.

• Monitor the accuracy of cuts.

• Replace dull cutting tools.





• Check accuracy of work against specifications.

• Ability to use precision tools (eg. Micrometers internal & external)

• Use manual machinery.

Primary responsibilities Fitter

• Takes the components assemble together, barrel, rod, piston and gland, assemble, to make a complete cylinder

• Seal assembly

• Then test cylinder, make sure has no leaks, by- pass pressure test, close it up, plug and press in the bushes

• Record the testing

• ID cylinder with job number

• Completed cylinder for spraying

• Torque nuts and bolts to right specifications

• Press the bushes

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Experience

• Certificate Ill in Engineering - Mechanical Trade (Fitter & Machinist)

• Good mechanical aptitude.

• Excellent reading comprehension

• Physical Stamina
