Leading Hand Boilermaker / Welder
Step-Up Opportunity | Full-Time | Permanent
Are you an experienced Boilermaker / Welder ready to take the next step into leadership?
We are looking for a hands-on Leading Hand Boilermaker / Welder to join an established heavy engineering and fabrication business based in Henderson.
We are equally interested in experienced Boilermakers who have demonstrated leadership qualities and are ready to step up.
The Role
Working closely with Workshop Supervisors and Project Teams, you will help coordinate tradespeople and daily fabrication activities while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
Leading and supporting a small team of Boilermakers / Welders
Coordinating daily work priorities and allocating tasks
Remaining hands-on across fabrication and welding activities
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and fabrication plans
Monitoring workmanship, quality and productivity
Supporting Supervisors with daily workshop planning and workflow
Ensuring project deadlines and production targets are achieved
Identifying fabrication issues and assisting with practical solutions
Mentoring and supporting less experienced tradespeople
Maintaining strong safety and housekeeping standards
Communicating progress, constraints and resource requirements to Supervisors
Ensuring completed work meets project specifications and quality requirements
About You
This opportunity could suit either an existing Leading Hand or an experienced Boilermaker / Welder who has become the person others naturally turn to on the workshop floor.
To be considered, you will ideally have:
Australian recognised Boilermaker / Welder trade qualification
Strong heavy fabrication and welding experience
Experience across marine, Defence, mining, resources or heavy industrial projects
Ability to confidently interpret engineering and fabrication drawings
Solid understanding of fabrication sequencing and workshop workflow
High standard of workmanship and attention to detail
Strong communication skills and the confidence to coordinate other tradespeople
A practical, solutions-focused approach to workshop challenges
Commitment to safety, quality and productivity
Australian working rights
Ready to Step Up?
You don't need to already have "Leading Hand" on your CV.
If you're an experienced Boilermaker who has previously mentored apprentices, coordinated other trades, taken ownership of work packages, assisted Supervisors or naturally stepped into leadership responsibilities, we'd encourage you to apply.
For the right person, this is an opportunity to transition from being solely on the tools into a recognised leadership position while continuing to develop your supervisory capability.
