HSE Advisor – Roving | SEQ & Regional QLD
Queensland Bridge & Civil (QBC) is a Queensland-based civil contracting company that has successfully delivered Department of Transport and Main Roads, Council and private enterprise projects across South-East Queensland for more than 25 years.
Following continued growth and recent project success, we are seeking an experienced HSE Advisor to join our team in a roving, site-based role across South-East Queensland and Regional Queensland.
This is a hands-on position suited to an HSE professional who enjoys being out on site, working directly with Project Managers and delivery teams to identify risks, improve safety performance and ensure our projects are delivered safely and in accordance with legislative and project requirements.
The Role
Working across multiple projects, you will provide practical HSE support to our operational teams and play an active role in maintaining and improving QBC's Safety and Environmental systems.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing practical HSE advice and support to the delivery teams
Conducting regular site inspections, audits and compliance checks
Identifying hazards and HSE risks and working with project teams to implement effective control measures
Reviewing and assisting with the development of SWMS, risk assessments, JSEAs and other HSE documentation
Participating in pre-starts and toolbox meetings and delivering relevant HSE information and training
Investigating incidents, near misses and environmental events and assisting with root cause analysis and corrective actions
Monitoring and reporting on HSE performance, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement
Supporting the implementation and ongoing improvement of QBC's HSE management systems
Maintaining awareness of changes to Queensland WHS and environmental legislation and ensuring relevant requirements are communicated to the business
Conducting internal audits and inspections in accordance with QBC's audit and inspection programs
Assisting with client, principal contractor and third-party audits
Working with project teams to ensure environmental controls and project-specific environmental requirements are maintained
Promoting a strong safety culture through visible leadership, engagement and continuous improvement
About You
We are looking for an HSE professional who is confident working in a construction environment and can build robust relationships with people at all levels of a project.
You will have:
Relevant qualifications in Work Health & Safety and Environmental Management
4+ years' experience in a similar HSE role
Demonstrated experience working within the civil construction industry
A strong understanding of construction site hazards, risk management and practical control measures
Experience with SWMS, risk assessments, incident investigations, audits and HSE documentation
Sound knowledge of Queensland WHS legislation and construction industry requirements
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both management and site-based personnel
The confidence to challenge unsafe practices and have difficult conversations when required
A proactive and practical approach to HSE rather than simply an administrative or compliance-focused mindset
Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
A current Drivers Licence
This role will suit someone who is comfortable on a construction site, not just in an office.
You will be expected to get out amongst the crews, understand what is happening on site, identify risks before they become incidents and work collaboratively with our operational teams to improve the way we do things.
If you are Brisbane-based, comfortable travelling to projects across SEQ and Regional Queensland, and are looking for a role where you can have a genuine influence on HSE performance, we would like to hear from you.
QBC is a drug and alcohol-free workplace.
Employees will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing as part of our fitness-for-work requirements.
