Senior Systems Engineer - Communications
We're seeking an experiencedSenior Systems Engineer - Communicationsfor a long-term contract opportunity within a large, highly regulatedaviation and critical infrastructure environment.
This is a senior, hands-on engineering role supportingmission-critical communications and telecommunications systems.
You'll provide technical leadership across the full systems engineering lifecycle while helping ensure operational systems remain safe, reliable, secure and fit for purpose.
The Role
Working within a specialist engineering team, you'll be responsible for the technical implementation, sustainment and enhancement of critical communications systems, includingvoice switching, telecommunications, control and monitoring technologies.
Your responsibilities will include:
LeadSystems Engineering activitiesacross requirements, design, integration, verification, validation and sustainment.
Provide technical leadership and specialist engineering advice across complex systems and projects.
Support the design, development, testing and implementation ofrobust telecommunications and communications systems.
Develop and review technical specifications, system requirements, engineering reports and design documentation.
Lead investigations into complex system issues and implement effective engineering solutions.
Prepare test plans and test cases and participate in system integration and testing activities.
Manageconfiguration, change control and technology change processes.
Identify, manage and track technical and program risks.
Monitor system performance and drive improvements inreliability and maintainability.
Provide guidance across system safety, security and technical integrity.
Collaborate with engineering, architecture,



security and operational teams, as well as external vendors and service providers.
Support knowledge sharing and mentor less experienced team members.
About You
To be successful, you'll bring:
A relevant degree inEngineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or an equivalent qualification.
Strong demonstrated experience applyingSystems Engineering principlesthroughout the system lifecycle.
Extensive experience in thedesign, development, testing and implementation of telecommunications systems.
Strong knowledge of quality assurance and configuration management practices.
Proven experience managing technical stakeholders and vendors.
Excellent technical documentation skills, including experience preparing and reviewingsolution architecture and system design documentation.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate and resolve complex technical issues.
The ability to work autonomously, take ownership and provide technical leadership.
Eligibility for registration as aProfessional Engineer, such as RPEQ.
The ability toobtain and maintain an Australian Government NV1 security clearance.
Highly Desirable
Experience or knowledge in the following areas will be highly regarded:
N-tier architectures and distributed systems
Real-time systems
Internet technologies
Information Security Manual (ISM) principles and controls
DO-278A software assurance guidelines
