The key duties of the position include:Employment Opportunity
The Attorney-General's Department delivers programs and policies to maintain and improve Australia's law and justice framework.
The department's Parliamentary and Legislation team is seeking two organised and enthusiastic individuals for the following APS5 roles: (1) Assistant Legislation Liaison Officer (LLO); and (2) Senate Estimates Officer.
Both roles would suit individuals that like dynamic work, have strong people skills, and want to deepen their Parliamentary and legislative process knowledge.
The Assistant LLO is responsible for:
supporting coordination of the department's legislation program
providing a 'help-desk' function to support teams to deliver priority legislation
delivering training and resources to build and maintain legislative capability in the department
managing lodging, printing, delivery and tabling of core legislative materials
monitoring and advising on the progress of legislation through Parliament, and
performing secretariat functions for the department's Legislation Committee.
The Senate Estimates Officer is responsible for:
preparing workplan of tasks ahead of each round of Senate Estimates hearings
coordinating Hot Topic Briefs and briefing packs for executives and ministers
coordinating and managing the security and witness lists for hearings
identifying questions on notice and coordinating portfolio responses
coordinating Hansard corrections and clarifications, and
providing advice and assistance on Senate Estimates matters.

As a member of the Parliamentary and Legislation team, both roles also contribute to other Parliamentary duties including coordination of question time briefs, monitoring and reporting on Question Time and tabling.
These are exciting and fast-paced roles that suit individuals with strong organisation, time-management and interpersonal skills.
Suitable candidates will be able to demonstrate most of the following:
strong attention to detail
strong organisation and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities
strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage productively with a range of stakeholders
sound judgement and ability to identify and escalate risks appropriately
Knowledge of legislative process and Parliamentary process is desirable but not mandatory for these roles.
EligibilityTo be eligible for employment at the Attorney-General's Department applicants must be Australian citizens.
Applicants offered employment will be required to successfully undergo a police record check and be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at a specified clearance level.
The successful applicant must be willing to disclose all relevant and required information.
Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
