About The Role
The Secure Extended Care Unit (SECU) in Ballarat provides longer-term, recovery-focused care for consumers requiring 24/7 mental health and psychosocial rehabilitation. As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 2, you will deliver evidence-based care within a supportive multidisciplinary team, contribute to a positive and collaborative unit culture, and support leadership activities that enhance service quality, Safewards practice and consumer outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver holistic, evidence-based nursing care to consumers and carers within an inpatient mental health settingComplete biopsychosocial and risk assessments and develop treatment plans aligned with recovery goalsSupport therapeutic programs, including group and individual psychosocial interventionsMaintain accurate documentation, communication and clinical handover in line with GH policyContribute to a safe, therapeutic environment and support reduction of restrictive practicesParticipate in supervision, student support, quality improvement and portfolio responsibilitiesWork collaboratively within the SECU multidisciplinary team across rotating morning, afternoon and night shifts
Skills & Experience
Registered Nurse with AHPRA registration; postgraduate mental health qualification desirableStrong knowledge of recovery-oriented practice,
less restrictive practice and the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act ****Experience in inpatient mental health or bed-based settingsEffective communicator with strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skillsOrganised, adaptable and able to manage competing priorities

This position is paid in accordance with the Victorian Public Mental Health Services Enterprise Agreement. The classification is Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 2 (NP21 - NP26) which ranges from $***** - $***** per hour.
