Senior Mechanic
This is an on island position.
The Mornington Shire Council is a Local Government Authority providing range of services to the twenty-three islands of the Wellesley Group located 125kms north-west of Burketown, 200kms west of Karumba and 444kms from Mount Isa, in the southern section of the Gulf of Carpentaria, residing within the State of Queensland.
The island is 2.5 hours flight from Cairns.

The Role:
The primary role of this position is to supervise operating mechanics involved in the repair and maintenance of all fixed and mobile plant and equipment owned and operated by Council and residents are maintained in a safe, cost effective and operational manner.
This position will be responsible for ensuring that services, repairs and maintenance are carried out in a safe and efficient manner and that all plant and equipment and safe and fit for operational purposes.
This position will be responsible for conducting routine and scheduled maintenance as well as conducting repairs as required on breakdowns, both in the workshop and on site.
General Responsibilities (but not limited to):
The vehicle mechanic will carry out repairs of vehicles,



small plant and equipment for Council's Fleet.
The mechanic will carry out servicing on Council vehicles, investigate and conduct diagnostic repairs as required on a daily basis.
The mechanic may be required to undertake other duties as directed by the Workshop Manager.
The successful applicant will need to possess a Trade Certificate in Automotive Engineering or similar qualification and a minimum of 3 - 5 years industry experience.
