We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team in Yarrawonga. This is a varied, hands‑on role offering exposure across a broad range of accounting functions and a great opportunity to further develop your skills and experience.

About the Role
Reporting to the Manager Finance & Administration, you will play an important role within our Finance team, supporting the day-to-day financial operations of MHA Care.
You’ll gain practical experience across month‑end reporting, reconciliations, cash management, fixed assets, budgeting, compliance and audit preparation while working closely with an experienced finance team.
This role would suit someone who enjoys variety, has a strong eye for detail and is looking for an opportunity to develop their accounting career within a supportive organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting monthly and year-end financial processes
- Preparing journals and balance sheet reconciliations
- Assisting with the preparation of monthly financial reports
- Completing bank reconciliations and assisting with cash management
- Maintaining fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules
- Assisting with annual budgeting and forecasting processes
- Preparing GST, BAS and associated reconciliations for review
- Assisting with the preparation of audit files, reconciliations and supporting documentation
- Coordinating information and documentation requested by auditors
- Supporting financial compliance and reporting requirements
- Contributing to improvements in financial systems, processes and controls
- Providing backfill and administrative support across the Finance and Administration team when required
About You
We’re looking for someone who is organised, enthusiastic and keen to continue developing their accounting skills.
Ideally, you will bring:
- Accounting qualifications or be currently studying towards an accounting qualification
- An understanding of accounting principles and practices
- Solid numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Positive communication and interpersonal skills
- Robust time management and organisational skills
- Confidence using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Experience with accounting software or the ability to quickly learn new systems
- The ability to work autonomously while also contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team
- A willingness to learn, ask questions and take on new challenges
- Previous experience within aged care, community services or the not-for-profit sector would be advantageous but is not essential.
Requirements
The successful applicant will require:
- A current National Police Check
- Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain one
- A current Driver’s Licence
- Formal accounting qualifications are highly regarded; however, applicants currently studying or developing their accounting career are encouraged to apply.
