About the role

As a Senior Mining Engineer, you will play a vital role in providing expertise in mine engineering across planning and practices to ensure safe and economically viable mining operations. You will be responsible for tactical and strategic mine planning, design, and scheduling for surface mining operations,



contributing to the optimization of production and the management of technical risks.

Key Responsibilities

- Be able to lead the development of short, medium to long-term mine plans (5YP, Budget, and Quarterly).

- Generate and validate pit designs, dumps, haul roads, and stage plans using advanced mine planning software.

- Support drill & blast planning and monitor performance to ensure fragmentation, dilution, and productivity targets are met.

- Collaborate with geology, geotechnical, and Mine operations teams to ensure optimal resource utilization.

- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing across the technical team.

- Interface with contractor teams to ensure safe and efficient execution of mine plans.

- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, cost optimization, and risk reduction strategies.

- Additionally, you will play a key role in developing and managing mine development, construction, and production schedules, ensuring seamless integration with short and long-term forecasting systems.

- You'll also be responsible for maintaining production monitoring and reporting systems, enabling the tracking of mining operations performance and identification of opportunities for enhancing quality and productivity.

Qualifications & Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or related discipline

- Minimum 10 years of open-pit mining experience, ideally in large-scale mine operations

- Proficiency in mine planning tools (Alastri, Vulcan, or similar)

- Strong understanding of geotechnical, hydrology, and drill & blast fundamentals

- Experience working in remote, multicultural environments is highly desirable

- Fluent in English: French & Chinese is an advantage

About the Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.

Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
