Build genuine litigation experience in a specialist practice

BM Resolve Lawyers is expanding its motor-vehicle and property-damage litigation practice and is looking for lawyers who want to build long-term expertise in this area.

We act in a substantial portfolio of motor-vehicle property-damage, recovery and defence matters. Our lawyers are involved in the full life of a file—from assessing liability and evidence through to negotiation, litigation, settlement and hearing.

These are not back-room research roles. You will receive responsibility appropriate to your experience, direct access to the firm’s principals and the opportunity to develop practical judgment, advocacy skills and genuine file ownership.

We have multiple positions available and welcome applications from graduates, newly admitted lawyers and lawyers with up to approximately five years of post-admission experience.

The work

Depending on your experience, you will:

1. Manage a portfolio of motor-vehicle property-damage recovery and defence matters.
2. Assess liability, quantum, evidence and prospects of recovery or defence.
3. Draft correspondence, pleadings, affidavits, advices and settlement offers.
4. Communicate directly with clients, insurers, insured parties, solicitors and other stakeholders.
5. Negotiate practical and commercially sensible resolutions.
6. Progress litigated matters from commencement through to resolution.
7. Prepare for and appear at directions hearings, pre-hearing conferences, mediations, arbitrations and contested hearings.
8. Prepare briefs and liaise with counsel, assessors and other experts.
9. Maintain accurate file records and manage court,



client and procedural deadlines.
10. Contribute to the improvement of precedents, systems and strategies across the practice.

Junior lawyers will receive appropriate supervision and structured development. More experienced lawyers will have greater autonomy and the opportunity to supervise others, improve practice systems and contribute to the firm’s continued growth.

About you

We are looking for people who genuinely want to develop a career in insurance litigation and property-damage claims.

You will ideally bring:

1. Admission, or expected admission, as an Australian legal practitioner.
2. A current Victorian practising certificate, or eligibility to obtain one.
3. Experience or a demonstrated interest in litigation, insurance or motor-vehicle property-damage claims.
4. Clear and accurate legal drafting.
5. Strong organisation and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
6. Sound judgment and close attention to detail.
7. Confidence communicating with clients and other stakeholders.
8. A practical approach to liability, evidence, negotiation and settlement.
9. Initiative, accountability and a willingness to ask questions.
10. An interest in becoming highly capable in a specialist area—not simply passing through it.

Direct experience in motor-vehicle property-damage claims, subrogated recoveries,



insurance litigation or independently managed court files, and experience with court systems such as CMS will be highly regarded, but it is not essential for junior applicants with strong fundamentals and the right attitude.
