Conditions: Manning Mental Health Unit is a 20-bed adult inpatient mental health unit, including a 6-bed High Observation Area (HOA), providing care to the adult population. The unit operates across two clinical teams, with each team consisting of a Consultant Psychiatrist, Psychiatry Registrar and Junior Medical Officer (JMO). Each team is responsible for approximately 10 beds. The position provides registrars with opportunities to develop greater independence in the clinical review and management of patients, presentations to the Mental Health Review Tribunal, and working within the wider multidisciplinary team. At the same time, the position is well supported, with both Consultant Psychiatrists present on the ward each day and readily available for supervision and clinical discussion.



The nursing and allied health staff are experienced and knowledgeable about the functioning of the unit, contributing to a supportive, collaborative and rewarding working environment. There may be occasional opportunities to assist with mental health assessments in the Emergency Department, although this is relatively uncommon. The role provides solid multidisciplinary team support and an excellent balance between supervised clinical practice and opportunities for registrars to develop their independence and confidence in adult inpatient psychiatry.
