What's the role?

News24, recently rebranded from Sky News Australia, is owned by News Corp Australia.

This is a hands-on, multi-skilled role running studio and technical operations for a new News24 production hub in the United States. The broadcast is directed remotely from our Sydney headquarters, so we need someone who can do the work on the ground, not just manage it.

AS the News24 US Studio Manager, reporting to the Deputy Head of Operations. You will set up and run the studio or studios, support hosts and guests, manage the floor during live broadcasts and recordings, keep equipment working, and be the first point of call for fixing problems when something goes wrong. From a technical point of view, you will run our US productions largely on your own, across a large time difference, with support from producers on the ground and remote Engineering, IT, and Operations support from our Sydney teams.

This is a 2-year contract with the possibility of extension. The role is based in Dallas, Texas.

Key Responsibilities

- Set up, operate and troubleshoot studio and technical equipment, including cameras, lighting, audio and prompter.

- Run the floor during recordings and live broadcasts and coordinate with the Sydney control room, technical, and ingest teams and other departments.

- Manage the local signal chain, including the feed to Sydney, the backup path, and the return feeds for vision, talkback and prompter.

- While not a broadcast engineering role, you will be the first point of contact for diagnosing and fixing faults with cameras, audio, lighting, encoders and connectivity under time pressure, and escalate to our engineering and operations teams when you need to.

- Be the day-to-day contact with our co-location partner's engineering, facilities and other teams.

- Keep the studio and its equipment working, manage spares and faults, and flag what you need early.

- Support the move from an initial temporary studio to a permanent facility, including supporting installation and testing.

- Write and follow local operating procedures so the operation is consistent and someone can cover when you are away.

- Support special coverage and live events as the operation grows.

Who are you?

- You have broad, hands-on broadcast experience across studio, camera, audio, lighting and floor management. You are comfortable being the only operator in the room.

- Strong technical troubleshooting. You can understand and troubleshoot signal paths, work with technical equipment including encoders, and fix basic problems without waiting for someone else.

- Experience with remote or distributed production, and the confidence to be the on-site end of a team based elsewhere.

- Self-sufficient,

with the judgement to know when to solve a problem yourself and when to escalate.

- A relationship builder who can earn the trust of a host broadcaster's staff and represent us well on their site.

- Adaptable and steady under live and breaking news pressure.

- Willing to work hours that match Sydney production and US recording schedules.

- Happy to work independently and take on tasks outside the day-to-day routine.
