Applications are invited for the full-time ongoing position of Caucus Adviser to join the Office of the Hon Dr Anne Aly MP. The role will be based at Parliament House in Canberra, ACT or Perth, WA.

Ministerial staff form an integral part of Government, providing indispensable political, policy and administrative support to Ministers as they carry out their executive responsibilities. They work in conjunction with the apolitical Australian Public Service to deliver the Government’s agenda.

The successful applicant will provide advice and support to the Minister relating to Caucus Members’ across policy, public administration and political matters.

Duties:

- Under the direction of the Chief of Staff, maintain effective relationships with Caucus Members’ Offices, the Australian Public Service, and other key stakeholders.

- Provide timely advice on priority, complex and sensitive policy, public administration and political issues based on concerns raised by Caucus members.

- Liaise with Caucus Members’ Offices as directed to identify key issues in relation to policy requirements relevant to the Minister.

- Create communications materials for the Minister on issues raised by Caucus Members.

- Assist the Program Manager to plan travel engagements for the Minister in response to Caucus needs and priorities.

- Prepare standard responses and policy announcement materials to support Electorate Offices in promoting the Minister’s work.

- Assist in policy initiatives and research into the development of strategic policy responses.

- Analyse and prepare reports, papers,



policy statements, briefing notes and statistical information on policy and related matters and significant portfolio initiatives.

- Frequent travel within the electorate and interstate, with occasional irregular work hours, particularly during parliamentary sitting weeks.

Selection criteria:

- Strong written and verbal communications skills.

- Experience in providing advice on a wide range of policy, administrative and political matters in a public, non-profit or private sector organisation.

- Experience in the processes of planning, organising and implementing research.

- Demonstrated experience in working in a high-pressure setting as part of a team.

- Knowledge of the political process and the Australian parliamentary and political system.

- An ability to work cooperatively to achieve whole of government strategic objectives.

- Demonstrated professional integrity and the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.

- Demonstrated capacity for applying analytical and problem-solving skills in developing solutions for complex issues.

- Ability to rapidly acquire a sound knowledge of the structure and functions of the portfolio.

- Proven reliability in meeting deadlines and commitments especially in high pressure situations.

Employment conditions:

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff)



Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 which include:

- Depending on the level at which the position is filled, a commencing annual salary will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills. Salary ranges are as follows:

Adviser 1 - $77,070 to $95,158

Adviser 2 - $94,643 to $113,521

- An additional Personal Staff Allowance is payable in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work:

Adviser 1 - $29,741

Adviser 2 - $35,387

- An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

- Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).

- An initial probationary period of three months may apply and may be subject to extension.

- The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.

- The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards.

- The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 2 security clearance and comply with the Ministerial Staff Code of Conduct.
