Senior Python Developer/ Technical Lead
Location of work: Melbourne
Contract Length: 6 months + 2 x potential 6-month extensions
Working Arrangements: Part-time (3 days a week)

This role will be for a hands-on technical leader who can balance coding, engineering delivery, and stakeholder engagement while driving the successful migration of a data processing application to a modern, scalable platform.

Role Responsibilities:

- Define the migration approach.
- Develop the Python solution for the data processing workload
- Collaborate with the project manager, solution architect, platform teams, and business stakeholders
- Support knowledge transfer and uplift capability across the application support team
- Be a team player, working with the practices of the teams you work with, as appropriate
- Lead the technical design and implementation

Key Requirements:

- Proven experience working as a software engineer for application modernisation or re-platforming initiatives
- Experience conducting code reviews and fostering engineering best practices
- Stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Python development experience, including application design, performance optimisation, and troubleshooting
- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and clean code principles
- Experience developing data-intensive applications, ETL workflows, APIs, and microservices
- Familiarity with Python data processing libraries
- Experience building data ingestion, transformation, validation, and processing pipelines
- Strong understanding of data modelling, data quality frameworks, and metadata management
- Experience integrating with databases, external APIs, messaging platforms, and enterprise systems




- Knowledge of batch and real-time data processing architectures
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices
- Experience re-platforming or modernising legacy applications
- Knowledge of data governance, regulatory compliance, and enterprise data management practices
- Experience within large enterprise or regulated environments
- Working with Office365 including SharePoint, Teams and collaboration tools such as Gitlab
